Wall costs and corridor map
Does anyone know why walls sometimes cost nothing to build? It costs 3000 gold + some wood and stone at the start but will drop to zero at seemingly random times.

Separately, does the corridor (8-player) random map generate correctly? Whenever I've used it the layout looks identical to centipede. The 'preview' image is just three unoccupied towns in a line so I've no idea what the map should look like.

Hi! The bug with zero wall cost has been seen before, yet tricky to reproduce. Does it occur often for you?

The best way to report a bug is by pressing b+b+b (three times "b") after it happens or before you know it's about to happen. It will send over useful data about the state of the game, and you also get prompted to write down repro steps.

As for the corridor 8 player layout, it's not the same as the Centipede layout, although they look a bit similar. You can copy random seed when generating and use the same random seed when generating a different layout. Same random seed should get you the exact same result again if you chose the same layout again. However If you chose a different layout, you should still get a different result.

I feel like I see it in every game eventually. Although I have taken to not paying for walls unless I'm about to be attacked (why use resources if I can get it free!). I saved the game as soon as I noticed it last time, but then when I loaded the previous auto-saves they too had zero cost. I did think about using the triple-B at the time but I've got no idea what is triggering it. Will do it from that save now though.

I'll have another go at Corridor when I'm done with the above game.

Edit: Loading up that save game, the walls are not free any more. Possibly linked to session length or number of turns? Will send next time I see and try to provide more details.

Hi ! saw one of the recent reports about wall costs, likely from you. Big thanks for sending it. Unfortunately the logs and the save files were of no help yet. The wall cost bug that to you appear as random but often, I'm clueless as for why this is not happening to me at all. If you ever find out more info on what might be a consistent repro case, please send us another report. Sometimes it's a very specific action/input during very specific time and you might have a habit of doing something that I never do.

I'll ask some more knowledgable devs to look in to it as well ;)

While doing campaign for the first time I honestly thought walls just cost zero if the town is old enough is a feature.
Haven't seen that bug lately though.

I'll keep looking out for it. It does appear to be session-linked. After posting through the in-game bug reporter, I finished that game and started a fresh random map. Took about 10-15 turns for me to take the first City settlement and they were already zero cost.

Got it again, next game I played. Happened over an end turn in which I lost a small settlement and finished converting a City. Saved it on the turn before, closed to desktop and reloaded a few times with the same result.

Submitted through the in-game bug reporter too.

Edit: Slightly different this time as it displays zero cost but won't actually let me build the walls unless I have the required resources.

Thank you for the bug-report! It really helps our diligent QA team (its one guy) to find it.
