They're both long games that are worth your money. My opinions on the two of them are as follows:

Songs of Conquest:

- Fantastic art style and art direction
- Very nice sound track that makes it a pleasure to spend time playing
- Story can be slow in a few places but it's overall quite interesting. All the characters have their own unique personalities and character flaws that influence their decisions.
- The factions have distinctive unit lists and it's fun to explore them, similar to Warhammer games
- Lots of slow exploring, hoovering up loot, and base building, followed by very "swingy" battles. This game is basically like the turn based strategy version of Quake III Arena. If you are stronger than the enemy you will beat them decisively. If they're stronger than you, you will lose decisively, and the overall battle tends to snowball in one direction or the other very fast once you start fighting the opposing force, since characters have massive movement range on the map.
- The overall play is basically doing stuff to make your heroes stronger and figuring out how aggressive vs cautious you need to be vs the enemy. Once you figure out how to outpace their strength you win, but you might lose a number of times getting there and reload. You need to be efficient with your turns but you also need to figure out what path will be efficient before you can do that.
- Individual maps are very long but you can save whenever.
- Fog of War is VERY important since once either side is spotted it's more or less impossible after the early phase of a map to avoid the enemy army once they've seen you.

Symphony of War:

- Art and music are much more basic
- Story is very basic, nothing special although it has a couple highlights
- If you like "Roster Management" games like Ogre Battle, Final Fantasy Tactics, Unicorn Overlord, or games like Football Manager you will probably like this as the unit customization is very deep.
- Tactics are overall more interesting than Songs of Conquest since there is more variety in unit and movement types, kind of similar to Fire Emblem but with the roster management stuff added in.
- Battles progress at a more even pace than in Songs of Conquest, the game is probably a bit easier than Songs of Conquest overall. There is no fog of war from what I remember and it's not really significant if it is there.
- Upgrading your units is done between battles and so you don't have as much pressure about choosing to build units or buy upgrades.

They play completely different. If you want a HoMM like, this is your game. Symphony of war plays a lot more like ogre battle: MOTBQ.

Songs of Conquest is "What if we took Heroes of Might and Magic 3 and took out all the janky bits and balanced it properly?"

Symphony of War is "What if we umm....made a tactical JRPG like Fire Emblem/Shining Force/Tactics Ogre?"

Completely different games which people mix up because their titles sound exactly alike. Even I get them mixed up sometimes.
