Why does no one complete the campaigns?
According to achievements less than 10% complete the first campaign on any difficulty. Other campaigns are 5-2%.

Sounds really low for four map campaigns, any difficulty. What's the issue? Is every one dropping it three hours in?

I finished all but rana by now. Trying to beat it from time to time.

I think because most of them (as me) finished the campaigns before the trophies were added.
I got some of the Rana campaign trophies because I loaded the last save and finished the 4th quest in a few turns, but I don't have time to replay them all now.

Ah, alright, that would make sense. Do you happen to know when achievements were added, did that happen with 1.0?

I'm not really fun of campaigns in such games, I mainly PVP with the friends on regular basis

Few months before 1.0. After 3rd campaign has been added.

Lets face it, most people want to play sandbox... I think thats why.

I bought the game mainly just to play custom game and skirmish it's been like that since HoMM.

Personally I think it has to do with the difficulty of the 3rd and 4th maps. I have played every HOMM game and loved most of them. The campaign in this game felt tedious at best and if you don't do things correct from the 1st map you are boned by the end of the campaign.

I've never like the campaigns in any of these games. They always put weird restrictions like find the artifact or kill a certain hero. I don't come to these games for that. I play gigantic maps with dozens of castles and hordes of heroes.

Basically once I get bored of the game, and start delving deeply into specific mechanics that still retain some interest, the campaign might occasionally provide some of that.

I think that's only really an issue if you are playing on the harder difficulties; especially the hardest one.

That said, to me, the campaigns pale in comparison to HoMM 3 campaigns. The story/presentation is better and you have some minor choices to make before doing a level. IMO, this makes things a little more engaging since it adds a tiny bit of replayability as well as making you think about what you want. Though, a lot of HoMM 3 levels are imbalanced or just ridiculous at times. So it's kind of a mixed bag between both games, IMO.

I just like playing games on my own terms. The sandbox custom mode is really fun for me.

Lava potion mentioned on some stream that they made heroes like games with conquest being main thing and campaigns were more of afterthought. After releasing game in early access, they find out almost everyone played campaigns first.

But achievements for them got added way later, after 3rd campaign, year after merchant guild video, so majority of confirmed 500 000 users probably played them before if they even finished them.

Then you take in consideration this is more of niche pixel game from old school genre. People pick SoC in the sale for cheap but may never play it, they still counting into global steam achievements. How many games do you have you never played in your library? Look at some old school game like Rome total war. You might be surprised that achievement for finishing tutorial is considered rare, because nobody bothered to do it.

I personally love campaigns in SoC finished them all on overwhelming, it game me some game knowledge I probably wouldn't need for casual conquest. I am not really type of person to play strategies on max difficulties, because AI having 4x times your economy is not what I consider a fair challenge, just simple cheating. I never played homam3 campaigns either I didn't understand it as child but Homam 5 gave me story hook by its presentation, never finished those either tho.

Personally I hope Rise of the eternals will be finished after Vanir, and dlc story campaigns will be back on the menu between or after new factions, I really enjoyed soc campaign and interesting story for some reason. It was imo more fun to play them second time which is something I never do, simply because now you have context, as all base faction campaigns are happening simultaneously. And you know who is who, where are they and how they got there, and why they do what they do.

But I can imagine not many people have time and patience to do that again, my first time playing campaings I also swore to finish them and never play them again as I find out I am cooked and it takes hours to restart mission and play properly with prior knowledge.

On second play I did know what to do, looked for clues of scripts happening and made saves regularly every few turns in case enemy overwhelms me and game goes sour. Loth 4 was especially frustrating to maneuver perfectly (on overwhelming)

Finished most stuff in early access before achievements, kinda need to finish the last one and replay others to get achievs i guess.

But recent statements by LP don't look promising for me as campaign only player so i lost motivation to get back to this game for now.

Still nothing beats AoW1 campaign to me of all TBSs.
