Wtf is up with Sassanids?
This one bothered me bc I don't get it.
I get assassins, it means killer for hire nowadays, but why are they called Sassanid?
I presume the Sassanid people don't exist in this world.

That's just the name of a real world historical empire that existed between 224 and 651, they're a successor of the Persian empire. Well, technically it's the name of a Persian dynasty of kings, but the empire is named after them...It is essentially just the name of a country. Wtf do they have to do with assassins? I guess the word looks similar, so that's why it was picked, even though the word assassin and the word Sassanid have nothing to do with one another.

But why name a fictional unit of elite killers after a real world empire? Worse, it's a unit of a fictional brutish desert race of humanoids.
That's like going - The name of these Orcish Battlemaster units is called a Roman. Oh and the Elven fighters? They are called Greeks.
???
How does this make sense?

It's not. There's no D in assassin, but there is one in Sassanid. There's also one fewer S.

It's just such a weird name.
Again, think about if a fantasy game set in a fantasy world with no real world countries, had an Orcish unit that was called a Greek. Like wtf does that mean?

Greek was never a name though.. Sasanid was a Dynasty.
You probably dont know this... but Barya used to be called Doneria lmao.
Even if there was a unit called greeks i wouldnt care. why do you keep bringing up orcs?

Harima are a bit like orcs and orcs are common in fantasy, hence the comparison.
It's just a really weird name bc it's the name of a real world kingdom. I know it is the name of the ruling dynasty, the kingdom is named after them, I say so in the OP, but it doesn't make it any less weird. It's just odd.

It's immersion breaking, like, is the implication that the Sassanids exist in this world too, or did both people just coincidentally get the same name? And besides, why would this be the name of the upgraded form? It implies that Sassanid means something stronger/more elite than an ordinary assassin.
In the campaign they reference that there is a Sassanid people, which just makes it even weirder of a choice, bc now its the name of this fictional people, but also the name of a real world people.

Again, imagine if a unit was called a Greek, but it has absolutely nothing to do with Greeks and it's actually just a fictional race of fantasy people that are just called that for no reason.
Whenever I'd see any character say Greek I'd immediately think of actual Greece/Greeks not the fictional fantasy humanoids who just coincidentally have the same name.

This is what's happening to me whenever I see their name, it just takes me completely out and breaks my immersion and I can't find a single reason as to why they'd pick this as their name?
Sassanids have nothing to do with assassins, the two words are separated by almost a thousand years, so why would they use this as their name???

it doesnt imply the Sasanid empire existed in the nation. and Sassanid isnt the name of the upgrade form.... The upgraded forms name is Shadow. Who knows, maybe the type of Harima is called Sasanids, just like how theres the big harimas and the small harima pipers.

You're right, it's the base form. It's just such an odd choice to use a real world kingdom for their name...I really don't get why use Sassanid instead of just coming up with a fantasy name, it's so much simpler.
