It's not new that game developers feel the need to tell us that there are characters with different sexual orientations. Like most of us give a rat's ass.
Well, if I should remake your questions, it would something like: "Does something in this relationship destroy what was previously established or only here to promote bad idea?"
In the case of Clementine, being bi, well, doesn't contradicted anything or imply something bad in my opinion. It's not like she said she wasn't bi before at least and she shouldn't. In fact, you can complete go a no-romance (if you except S3 which was garbage), one or two hetero-romances, a gay romance only or hetero + a ♥♥♥♥ romance. So, it's not even that much an important fact in Clem's story as you have a lot of choice. It's just that, if you realy like some character, female or dude, you can decide Clem sees a more "personal" side to that said character but it's not obligatory in any way. The worst thing I could say about Clem being bi is I find the female romance in S4 much more natural and interesting than the hetero one as if it was forced to be better, if we kind of don't count the E3 (in which, without saying too much, the guy isn't as "rude" as the girl at one occasion). Well, I'm a little biaised as I realy like the female romance. But heck, if it wasn't for the political ♥♥♥♥ these times, I woudn't even think about these relationship as a problem for the story (again, we're not facing the pathetic relationships we had in S3).
There's a brief moment in Season 3 where Jesus and Javier had a very short interaction that hint at Javier being bisexual (which I've heard is confirmed), but it's so well hidden, I found out through the wikipedia page. This does exclude Clementine's sexuality being unknown in the first two seasons and only knowing she likes boys in the third (with Gabe). Micchone has a gay couple, but I never bothered with it. Now, with season 4 episode 3, it's possible for it to be blatantly clear that 4 significant characters are LGBT in some way. They're definitely making sure everyone can see them waving the flag after shying away for so long.
I agree with this. Too many games now are trying to push every different agenda they can to make every group happy. Life is Strange and Life is Strange 2 did/do the same
I couldn't care less what a character's sexuality is UNLESS it directly affects the plot or is needed for something involving an actual game play purpose.
You should see the subreddit when the news got out. It was a war zone.
I was on one side arguing why that choice should've been up to me to make what my Clem is. Since the game is so focused on the choices that you make. I'm just saying.
When they can gives us characters who give hints of their sexual orientations, why can't we have straight people do the same? Oh, no. It's political correctness, and if we forget someone, (excluded white straight males), then we'll have SJW over us!
And if they're not going for that, and if they need a canon story, if it happens to have a bi Clementine in it and if that doesn't affect badly the story or contradict what was said before, I don't see where the problem is.
