I plan on going through and doing both.

But IMO it's the dumbest decision in this season so far. It's a complicated issue that needs a more in depth answer than "you were justified" or "you're a monster", because that's how AJ takes your answers. He wasn't justified, but letting him conclude that he's an irredeemable monster is equally bad.

A simple answer doesn't cut it, and I hated both options. The gravity of what AJ did requires a much more lengthy discussion about the value of human life. I'm not saying Marlon didn't deserve severe punishment, but still... It's a grey area IMO.

I'm surprised they did it at all as it was basically a shooting in a US school and a hate crime.

Yes I realize it's a story in a broken world but still the underlying message is there to spark some controversy...

A hate crime? Seriously you're overthinking things

1) Marlon murdered Brody
2) He attempted to kill Clem
3) He attempted to convince the others Clem killed Brody and then kill her again (which he does if you don't choose the right options)
4) AJ is doing what in his mind he must be done to protect Clem
5) IT'S A ZOMBIE APOCALYPSE

So how is that in anyway a hate crime

I totally did it. That f*cker tried to kill Clem and then turn others against her (and kill her in the process). As far as I'm concerned, he more than earned a death sentence

I've done it both ways, so far it only changes a bit of dialogue

He was justified. Clem was being attacked, and the dude had just killed someone else.
Vladislak Feb 11, 2019 @ 11:38pm
Like I said, I think it's a grey area. He did kill someone shortly before, but at the time AJ shot him he was more or less harmless. Clem had either talked him into giving up, or beaten him into submission.

Marlon definitely would have shot Clem, he actually does if you aren't fast enough. But after he was disarmed (and potentially beaten) he wasn't really a threat anymore, at least not an immediate threat.

To me there's no clear cut answer to the issue, like many divisive character decisions in these games it's a complicated scenario.

Maybe not an immediate threat, since he's weak and unable to put a facade of giving up while prepping another backstab, but the same weakness also makes him unreliable. Marlon is just another distraction (since someone would've had to keep an eye on him) and potential (highly probable) risk. And in that harsh world, especially with someone hostile nearby, such risks can easily prove fatal. Is this f*cker's life really worth risking Clem and AJ's safety? To me it hella isn't.

I disarmed Marlon just talking to him, I told AJ what he did was wrong, and also the difference between killing someone who is a real danger and a person who is already disarmed (which in my opinion makes you a murderer).

Strange because you are faced with the same situation at the end of EP3, somebody disarmed who then if they aren't killed immediately kills one of your friends

I considered that person a real danger, because we're talking about a "soldier" trained to kill an enemy or defend herself in extreme situations, so it wasn't hard for me to kill her to keep the safety of the others. She was unarmed, but not defenseless.

She wasn't a soldier, she was an admin assistant, she had no military experience

Well, she looks trained, and also she's at war against other group of people... She might be prepared to fight the enemy, which means training

That's fair. Like I said, kind of a grey area and I can see both sides of the argument here.
