It may or may not get a remake like the first game down the line - but the original Shock2 is definitely still worth playing today (at least it holds up much better than the original System Shock both graphically and its gameplay).
It isn't a long game - and it is definitely worth playing. Whether you play this KEX engine port Remaster, or the original release using the latest versions a dozen or so community mods to buff up the graphics a bit (although Vanilla still looks pretty good too).
That's the thing about graphics: They only matter for _selling_ a game, not the actual playing of it.
The first game got a remaster before the remake buddy. 👍
I'm edging bets that ND will announce a full blown remake in due course.
SS2 is a more expansive game with more mechanics, maybe in 20 years.
I LOVED the original game back in the day, but even then I would have called it clunky. Now I would call the original release unplayable. (And yes, Enhanced edition exists, BUT that's still adaptation at best. A fresh start was vastly needed.)
System Shock 2, on the other hand, came out after we were using WASD standards which as people playing it today with and without mods proves, is STILL playable and enjoyable to this day. A remaster is nice and frankly a great excuse to get this game in the hands of console players who couldn't play before, but the game simply didn't need too much beyond that.
Edited for a single wrong word that changed everything (remaster to remake in the first paragraph)
literally no one is holding a gun to your head and forcing you to buy or play any game. maybe consider just googling the difference between "remake" and "remaster" and decide (quietly) for yourself whether you want to play it or not.
sounds like you're just complaining to hear your own voice tbh.
if you really NEED a pragmatic answer to the question, this enhanced version will give everyone access to the multiplayer options of the game for co-op play, which is something that has been somewhere between hinky and non-functional for like 2 decades. for most people who have actually played this game that is enough of a clencher. not enough for you? don't pourchase, and keep it to yourlsef - or purchase it and, again, keep it to yourself. choose wisely.
not sure why everyone has to publicly air out their "i don't want/like this game :(" rhetoric over every single game in existence. consider shutting your hole instead
