Just started and have a question...
I'm at the quarry site at in the tutorial and it says to inspect every rock. Every single rock I pick up and inspect says "This stone is from another period", no matter how i rotate it and look at it it always says "Un-inspected stone" I've tried inspecting every stone and it's always the same. I broke every stone also and now there are no more to look at.

And, I don't seem to be able to equip a shovel.

Any hints?

Hi! Try to use a pickaxe instead and excavate some rocks this way. Most of the rocks spread on the surface are from "another period", this is normal. :)
If you still have trouble, show us a screenshot showing your surroundings. This way, we'll have an easier time figuring out what you need to do.

I am having this issue too. How do I get a rock to be not "un-inspected"? Is there a button I need to push or a sensitive nubbin on the rock I am not rubbing correctly? Kind of a big roadblock early on. :Rivals:

When I start at a new digsite, I usually run around smashing all the grey stones, so they're not in the way. When I start to dig I use the electronic meter on all the rocks. They get red or green paint on them, green if there is a fossil. Then you can smash all the red rocks.

Make sure you are parking your Car in the marked area, and then "setup Dig Site".

Once this is done, you will receive all tools to continue correctly. I came across the same thing where I just parked anywhere, and I wouldn't let me do much else except look at Rocks.
