if not, then thy closed the service to qualify for owning the previous game
So either it's a reward that was only handed out when the game came out, or you actually have to have played H1 instead of just owning it, or maybe it's tied to having an IOI account (I don't)?
you need to have played H1
ioi account is irrelevant, that's for the anniversary suits
if that doesn't unlock it, it's no longer connected
owned and played hitman and hitman 2 (both on steam) missing some maps i think. am i right in thinking you get them all with hitman 3? not too bothered if so, just waiting on a sale.
i dont ever recall making an account on their website.
guess i should reinstall hitman 1 and try?
I can't make it any more simple for you. You play H1, than you play H2 and then you restart H2. That's how it used to work.
Getting the travel briefcase was the exact same process as unlocking whichever legacy pack you qualified for.
However, neither H1 or H2 are sold on Steam anymore and I have no way to know if this process is still provided.
If you need an explanation that is longer than one sentence, all the information on how unlocks used to work is here:

I never understood why people got confused by any of this, play one then the other and then restart. I ended up writing an entire guide repeating this multiple ways because people were easily confused and needed it explained again.
thank you. scacriel so uptight. remember im a noob to hitman. i just couldnt be bothered back in the day. you guys cleaned it up i guess. having better experience that back then.
game was bad back then even for unreal standards? would you agree.
edit i guess im older so expect a different level of devs etc etc. ty for your reply.
talon level. wake up.
was not true anymore as of early January. As I've writte above I have automatically gotten the GOTY Legacy Pack the first time I booted Hitman 2 without having ever played a second of Hitman 1. If the travel briefcase and the legacy pack are indeed based on the same mechanism, IOI has already stopped granting the travel briefcase long before they stopped selling Hitman 1 and 2 on Steam.
Hence why I ask if anyone has actually gotten the briefcase in the last month or two because I want to first know it's even possible to get before I worry about the precise trigger (which would then have be different from obtaining the Legacy Pack, because I have one but not the other).
That's not different methods, play the game, then play the other game and restart.
You need a profile in H1 for the profile in H2 to recognize it and then it's granted the next time H2 connects after recognizing it. I can re explain it 10 different ways if you want me to.
As usual people just get confused and go in circles, hence the guide.
And as I've said repeatedly: I can't confirm which systems still work in 2023, I only know how it used to work. ioi have said nothing other than to pull the games off steam and at some point none of it may work. Even the legacy pack activation probably will stop working, just like the access passes are no longer granted in H3 for what's owned in H2, you just buy them all in bundles now.
You said legacy pack and briefcase use the same activation method. Obviously not the case since I have the first but not the second.
You say here and in your guide that for the legacy pack you need a "profile" and for that you need to play H1. Obviously not the case since I got the legacy pack in early January without ever so much as downloading H1 and when I looked it up online before going through the process many people said the same thing. I have no reason to assume your guide was wrong, but the mechanism has probably changed since the time it was written.
"Restart the game", "restarting the Steam client", "reboot your computer", "the longest work-around" - this is trouble-shooting voodoo at its best. Throw stuff at the wall until *something* sticks. I'm not saying it wasn't helpful at the time as a collection of anecdotes that give people something to try. I'm just saying this tells me nobody has actually understood what the precise trigger is and how to make it happen reliably. Why would some people need a longer "work-around" than others? Why would some need to play H1 while others don't? Why would some need to restart the game, others Steam and some even their computer (???) while others get it on the fly?
From reading these forums - I would assume it already has stopped since people have to buy keys now. That's the basic crux and leads back to my question - is the granting of the travel briefcase (whatever its trigger may have been) now over because it relied on a mechanism that has been shut down? Hence why I'm hoping for a semi-recent confirmation from someone. Then I know it's worth it for me to go through the checklist of troubleshooting voodoo to see which potential trigger works in my case. I would like to figure this out, but it may have become a puzzle with no solution.
i haven't been able to unlock it. i've tried a few things but no luck.
is he the qa guy/dev? he seems invested. i cant work him out. he knows everything:P love.
