i used the coconut last time to knock someone out, but it doesnt seem like its doable, you cant hol the battleaxe and saber at the same time if you try to pick one or the other up the item counter stays at 11 not 12 and hiding an item in a basket or something doesnt count either

You can (and must) hold both, the saber can be placed on your back.

I just completed it and can confirm this is the case.
I beleive last year you just needed to stop them from getting the items first, this time they want you to keep all the items.

Since the attic is the hardest part, one thing I did was dropped the axe right away so that if I got caught and had to flee it was a trivial matter to go back into the party and grab it.

maybe i remember it wrong but i dont remember being able to hold both at same time unless its a hitman 2 upgrade, anyways i got it done was super easy

When you drop items, the challenge actually goes backwards. I grabbed the axe as 8/12, and when I dropped it, the challenge went back to 7/12 again. Once it is completed, I think you can drop it.
I am not sure if they grab duplicates somewhere, since I did the challenge and even had all 12 items still on me, but they returned to the blanket and cheered, and I did not get the challenge to blow em up with propane even though I did that.

Seems they go for alternative items or something when you grab all 12? Bummer cause I don't want to do that all again and you can't save on that mission it seems.

Edit: Nvm I went for the wrong Battleaxe it seems >.< there's another one in the room with the toy tank and it counted towards the collection challenge, so I thought it got moved. I got that challenge with this axe actually, but of course the guy still steals the one in the ice cube afterwards.

This is a Hitman 2 upgrade, the saber can now be strapped on your back the same as the katana always could, this was not possible with the previous version

i just collected most of it while wearing a security guard outfit, no one cared if i had the axe

Dropped the axe in the office before going up the ladder into the attic, collected the 4 items up there and came back down to the office, boom 12 items completion
