HITMAN 3 will, though, for both of the previous titles.
You will not be able to access hitman 2 maps unless you buy the access pass. It doesn't matter if you own the game + dlc on steam. You also can't buy hitman 2 on the egs. Only the access pass. If you live in a non US location you may also be experienceing an egs "bug" where the price has increased. They are aware of this and will fix it...eventually.
not for both of the previous titles, only for your progress from hitman 2 (legacy content included ~ but if you only did that content in hitman 1, no carry over)
Yes
And yes you need to buy all the locations on EGS to have them
That's the other direction, you misunderstood the question
Yeah, but I don't and I won't. I'm not sure I'm even getting Hitman 3, and I say that as someone who preordered the Gold edition of Hitman 2 based on how shockingly good the first one was.
What a joke this release has become.

Have fun everyone buying it on EGS if you mess up the process
If we're being honest, it's not as bad, it's substantially worse.
Heck I wrote the store guide for 2 and thought it was silly that anyone even needed it. It's pretty simple if you step back and really think about it (for 2)
But 3? That's true complexity. 5 different versions, multiple cross platform issues, an even larger number of legacy variations and forget trying to know ahead of time how the unlocks carry over.
I spent the last two years trying to help. I think I'll spend the next year just watching and laughing at all the epic buyers coming here looking for help since they can't even get any from egs.
Yikes, IO Interactive really do care money more than the fans. I guess they won't allow the fans who've made the save progression transfer [from Steam to Epic] to undo it if fans want to go back to steam if Hitman 3 is finally released next year (January 2022). Because IO Interactive are spiteful.
So if I and anyone else would still want to play Hitman 3 on steam, we're gonna have to keep waiting and we have the devs' deceptive marketing to thank for that.
Worse case scenario, they'll try to force the "Access Pass" scheme on us (when H3 comes out on steam) because the devs are mad that the fans didn't give them more money on Epic Games Store launch for successful profits.
so many people will get screwed over this. what's next? If you own the game on EGS you can not carry over your progress over to steam?
and what does it mean "it will be lost"? Does it mean that someone, who linked his Hitman 3 with his 1+2 account, but decided not to buy 1+2 on EGS will have all their unlocks on steam deleted?
Dear god, this gets worse and worse.
edit: nvm, it's just that once you synch with 3, you
a) lose all the progress in 3, but will get 1+2 unlocks and stuff
b) anything you now unlock in 1 or 2 after the synchronizing will not be unlocked anymore in 3, so you need to play 3 to unlock stuff from the previous titles in 3, so forcing people to buy the previous titles if they want to play with unlocks they did after they touched 3.
