Dispite what publishers tell you, a game sells more coppies than *just* the launch weekend.
Belive it or not, some people wait for sales and/or patches before they buy a game.
Sometimes people (le gasp) don't have time at a game's launch to buy and play it.

It's around the 30th best selling game on Steam right now, but, I have no idea if that's a lot more sales than before or not. Unfortunately, the number of owners Steamspy lists is even farther from accurate than before, because all of the people who have the free Holiday Hoarders event were able to get the free cards for the game. That caused hundreds of thousands to millions of bot accounts to idle the game for cards, and due to the way IO set up the freebie, all those people look like full owners of the game, when they aren't.

Valve just released a list of the top selling games on Steam for 2018. and while Hitman 2 didn't make the overall best sellers list, it was a top selling new game in November https://store.steampowered.com/best_of_2018

I wonder how many people have an entry on the leaderboard for the first mission now?

I do hope it sold well, the Developers deserve it. I would say it definitely had more of a successful launch than Hitman 2016 did, the episodic feature didn't go over well with so many fans.

That topic earlier referred to the UK (a moderately sized market) retail (whose share is forever shrinking in the digital age) sales being poor. It made no mention of USA and rest of Europe or Asia, 3 considerably larger markets, and online sales, which is a lot harder for insiders to scoop without getting it from the direct source. In the past, it isreally easy to get info on units shipped and then they would know how to convert to actual sales using some formula.

I really doubt Hitman 2 had a sudden surge of sales, or surge in the market share as I assume most games would have a surge around now with Xmas/Winter Sales on. But more likely, the data from all the sources are starting to filter in and we get a better picture of how the game really did.

Paris Holiday Hoarders = 19106

Sapienza World of Tommorow = 42032

Sapienza The Icon = 10467

Sapienza Landslide = 10030

Sapienza The Author = 11813

Marrakesh A Gilded Cage = 31820

Marrakesh A House Built on Sand = 7280

Bangkok Club 27 = 27790

Bangkok The Source = 14453

Colorado Freedom Fighters = 24838

Colorado The Vector = 13592

Hokkaido Situs Invernus = 26602

Hokkaido Patient Zero = 9057

Achievement comparison: 13.6% of people who downloaded the game completed Night Call so steam has 1,219,110 people marked as "owners" with no way to tell how many of them are "free" versus purchased of which 165799 bothered to complete the most played mission in the game (with no way to tell how many bought it and just didn't play it)

And of course these are estimates based purely on professional with no way to know how many people played purely on casual and/or master, but adding those numbers together wouldn't help either since anyone who plays a lot may end up counting on all three score boards (at least for the missions that have multiple difficulty)

Steamspy shows anything between 5 to 10 million. Those numbers gotta be wrong or include the demo numbers.
Hitman 2016 only shows from 2 to 5 million

Thanks! I think this was about 100,000 last time there was a discussion about the sales numbers, so it has gained a fair amount since then.

Because Hitman 2 does not have a "demo" it's the prologue and the actual core of the game

Once you understand that, you understand the numbers

I tell you a little secret: Just a few developers and publishers an actualy care about PC sales. Most of them a looking on consoles market. And thanks to a RDR2, God of War, Spider Man and other awesome games, Hitman 2 completly fail on sales.
