Workaround for bugs getting spotted when sniping?

So apparently it's impossible *NOT* to get spotted when sniping? I've been going through the 'broader scope' mission approach in mumbai, and starting with Rangan, he walks around the corner of the stairs and I snipe him. I'm in the tower, what, like 6 blocks away or something? Using the ghost (silenced) sniper rifle. Crouched, in the tower, behind the cover of the tower wall, wait for the right time, pop up (still 'crouched' and in cover, just open the scope), snipe, and immediately drop back down.
And yet, reload & try again a dozen or more times, and every single time, without fail, the guards around him spot me and open fire. WTF guys, you have psychic x-ray vision or something?
Anyway, I'm assuming that's not intended behavior; it's got to be some kind of glitch. Is there some workaround for this? Silent/sniper/suit only gets pretty impossible with psychic guards.

Funny thing is, it never actually says I'm conpromised or anything - alwasy just switches to "searching" - but then they start peppering the tower with gunshots, which inevitably leads to "gunshot heard" which then triggers getting spotted.

You are not spotted until it says you are spotted/compromised.

It is called suppressive fire. No one sees you, but they have a good idea as to where the shots might have come from.

It's not a bug, if you weren't spotted or compromised then they are just guessing and taking pot shots in the direction the bullet came from

Had you simply left the area quickly they would be shooting at where you were and not at you because they didn't see you

"Searching" in no way means compromised or spotted. They just fire into the rough direction (and may run up to your spot). What you can do is

- leave the area right after the shot and kill other targets from other vantage points
- hide in a box nearby, wait for the guards to come and investigate, proceed when they are finished "searching" without any findings

You can easily do all targets from the same spot in colorado and Mumbai, but you need to hide (in a box or by leaving the area) until the guards calm down

Edit: Just crouching down at the spot you shot from will not work and keep the guards sieging your spot forever even if they have no line of sight.

Ah. so, if this is not a bug, but intended behavior -- since you don't have time to leave the tower during the dawood/shah sequence, and popping up to shoot shah while taking "suppressive fire" gets you instantly spotted (just the noise of the suppressive fire makes the nearby guards train on the tower searching for you), it's impossible to do unspotted sniper kill challenge alongside the broader scope mission.

I still say ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, though - There is NO WAY in hell a guard a quarter mile away is going to determine that a gunshot from a silenced sniper rifle came from exactly that spot. But hey, not a bug, that's good I guess? :)

Also, to be clear, maybe they aren't tagged in the game as having spotted me, and the note *says* "searching", but their behavior is absolutely focused. Take a look:

They're all spread out, standing still, guns trained on my position, shotting at my cover at random. And they stay that way. Since the above shot, I've been just sitting here waiting for them to get tired of "searching" since, no change, still guns drawn, pointed directly at me, though they're still supposedly "searching".

That's 100% repeatable. Every single time I take a shot from that point, the above screenshoit (or some variation) will be the outcome.

I don't mind finding a solution like this isn't possible due to game mechanics. It's frustrating when something like this isn't possible due to glitchy ai behavior.

Sniper Assassin does not require suit only

I did all of those challenges from that tower without being spotted

That screenshot says nothing. They are looking at you because that corner of the tower provides no cover.
If you actually shoot while right against the edge of the tower, you deserve to be seen and will be, back-up then shoot.
Clear the area around the tower, if you are really having trouble.

Start on hill, sniper rifle on hill
remove 1 roof guard, grab brick then raise flag
grab briefcase, throw down
use brick to make smoke, go to tower
Kill DaWood on his way down
Kill Vanya as she walks past the sleeping guy and his pot plants
Kill Wazir as he enters house, or as he leaves down steps
Walk to boat and leave

So here is what i figured out today.
Posted this also in another thread.

I tried getting the sniper assassin challenge on the SITUS INVERSUS mission in Hokkaido. Somehow each time when i tried to take the shot from the mountain cliff i got spoted and the sniper assassin challenge didnt pop. it was either i got instant return fire or the challenge didnt drop anyway. My problem was tho that very early in the mission i was spoted by a enforcer and just ran away.

After redoing the mission the exact same without the enforcer encounter i didnt get instantly spoted and the challenge droped. So it seems if a enforcer once gets a closer look at u and gets suspicious hes on some kind of hyper alert. Next time u shoot u gonna get spoted.

Did u have anything like that happen for u?

To Capt.: I know the sequence. I've DONE the sequence. I had broader scope long before I started this topic. Was just trying to do it suit only with no sightings or killing anyone else to get sniper assassin suit only. The AI glitches, they surround the location (supposedly "searching" but standing still, guns trained on my location, - exactly like you see in that screenshot - and just SIT THERE- indefinitely - I've waited over 5 minutes for them to give up and they don't). Notice there are no dots over the heads of many of those dudes? They're behaving as if already engaged even though - as you can clearly see in the screenshot - they haven't seen 47 directly and should be searching, not engaged. Plus they STICK there.

To Highway: I suspected something like that, and tried again (VERY carefully watching for anything like that), and still the same result. Appreciate your attempt to help though :)

I'm just going to do sniper assassin suit only using a different approach rather than trying to combine with the broader scope sequence.

To original poster, I know this is years old but for your piece of mind I am having the exact same issue. The second my sniper bullet touches a target in Mumbai it instantly causes me to be spotted. Does not matter where they are, where I am in the tower, what I am wearing or where I hide afterwards. I will find another way to get the sniper challenge but thought you might want to know it's not just you.

He wasn't being spotted, try actually reading the thread:

^He was being searched for. This has already been explained in other replies above.
