I try to avoid collateral, but I'm not that interested in the score.
Personally I replay every mission in every possible way. I've done them all purist, no non targets, suit only, silent assassin, even done them without knock outs and not touching anyone but targets. I've also killed 100% every single npc on every map. And every variation in between.
My first play through was "whatever" just to learn maps. Second play through was pure silent assassin / suit only followed by sniper challenge, basically 2nd/3rd play through on master were to complete 100% of the classic challenges.
The next however many completions were to fill in the rest of the challenges, I typically don't care about collateral damage and focus on the actual challenge requirements as quickly as possible if I'm doing a challenge run.
With 100% of the challenges done I'll go back through and play purist, no knock outs, no non targets just to prove to myself I can. Then I'll play again and aim for a decent leaderboard score. After that I'll play again and kill every npc on every map if I hadn't already done it during a challenge run.
And that's on top of ghost mode, contracts and occasionally toying with sniper assassin.
Me - "NO WITNESSES!"
Diana - "Oh my god 47 stop you where just supposed to kill the 2 targets, you've killed 1/2 of Marrakesh. Lets not turn this into another how many corpses can I fit in a bathroom on the Paris mission"
Me not paying attention and singing as i walk through the crowd meat cleavering people
"I saw the sigh and it opened up my eyes...oh I saw the sign"
So ya I guess you could say sometimes I kill a few non targets....
I mean the Devs did take the time to make several automatic weapon unlocks and it feels like a dis service not to inappropriately use them to make mountains of corpses for 47 to dive into like piles of leaves...
And lets not forget all the insults about bad breath that the npcs throw at poor 47.
i feel like this is what agent 47 would do in real life cause it makes little sense to waste time and overcomplicate things just because 2 clowns are guarding a door
i feel like when you have the ability to dispose of anyone with your bare hands in a matter of seconds you don't bother doing too much unnecessary sneaking around
Look, it depends on what you are doing. If you want to play perfectly, of course not. If you are doing in-game challenges or just messing around, who cares? All killing non-targets does it lower your score and prevent SA. People get way too hung up on the penalty I think.
I also have savegames where I am armed to the teeth with all available explosives and have cleared most of the levels guards without alerting anyone. I then try to cause as much death as possible while not being detected and escaping with a disguise. Of course this has to be done on master difficulty to be a challenge.
The fashion show is excellent for this. You can run throw explosives down from the gallery and start shooting at the people running out through the main hall. I put a bunch of guns there for ammo and the only place guards can come up is via the stairwell.
In Miami it's quite the challenge to shoot up the disco, VIP area, the stands and the normal area around the stands.
In Marrakesh it's not that hard, but you have the most explosives available. There are nine remote explosives in that level. You can clear out the entire embassy+yard without the demonstration stopping. After that just place the explosives in the crowd and get out one of the many AKs in that level to blast away the people running to the sides and to shoot into the market for extra carnage. Clearing the market becomes super tedious, because the pipless npcs don't even have a run-to-exit script function. They just stand there while you can knife a hundred of them.
In Sapienza there is the level with Marco Abbiati where you can collect propane from the church garden shed and put it into the concert crowd to cause a chain reaction with explosives+propane flasks+propane heaters. Then you can shoot at the crowd from the balcony.
The goal is still to eliminate the target and get away incognito. The terrorism is just role-play viable distraction. Maybe that's why we don't get the newspapers feature anymore after a level. That would be quite cool, but also disturbing.
So to answer your question: Yes. I do kill A LOT of non-targets and it's fun to a twisted basterd like me.
47 is not a hero
It's not about whether it's good or bad to kill anyone, it's about whether or not he's been paid to do it
Killing random people is giving away work for free. He kills who he get's paid to kill
This seasons story is garbage because it's falling into the cliche revenge plot and not just having 47 at work doing his dam job
Yeah, I prefer there not to be an interconnecting story but just tell us the backstory of the characters and why they deserve to die.
