2.5 GB for Haven Island and... 7.5 GB for 2 special assignments??

I don't get it, why an entirely new mission in an entirely new location has 66% smaller size than 2 small mission in 2 existing locations??

It wasn't existing location. Sure the location is the same as previous one, but they recreate the map, add something to it, that's why it's counted as a new maps.
It's bigger because you need to download that new maps.

Steam's updates/expansions/everything have to download and overwrite entire catagories of data.

If they have to change something like.. an existing suit.. but all of the suits are only in one 'folder'.. Than Steam has the developers update the entire folder.

Haven looks like it could reasonably be 2.5GB, special assignments is probably the reason listed above tho

They’re not recreations, anyone can tell they’re literally duplicates of the existing maps but with slight changes. There’s no need to bloat the game like this when they could just have a set of new objects loaded when the player starts the Special Assignment missions.

I swear, the Patient Zero campaign is smaller than these two missions.

Well, I had a 10GB patch for DOOM once ... after it the game size was smaller on my hard drive. Download size doesn't mean anything.

i have gold expansion and its downloading 585 mb not even 7 gb

It was the same with the Bank and the Special Assignments that released alongside it, the Assignments were far larger than the actual new map.

Not at all. Steam offers different ways to release such minor updates, it all depends on how familiar the devs are with the tools.

This is false; on the contrary, Steam has one of this most efficient update systems around that scans files for the portions that have been updated, and only downloads those parts.

The reason why the special assignment pack is that big is because, for some reason, the devs have made them as 2 new levels instead of re-using the existing levels.

Just a note, but the sizes listed on the website you quoted are not accurate for PC

Version 2.60.0 of the game was 130.4 gb (prior to today), after release of Haven and the Special Assignments Pack the full install size of the game in version 2.70.1 is now 148.5 gb.

The game is 18 gb larger with Haven Island and Special Assignment 2 both installed

That 2.5 was likely supposed to be a 12.5 and I don't feel like uninstalling a bunch of pieces to try and sort out what else may have changed to come up with the total gb amount changed per piece
