TDR errors Constant Random Crashing

Hi everyone. I get constant crashing at random when fighting in game. There seems to be a small stutter, and the game closes out to windows. No error messages on screen. When looking at the Windows 10 Event log I do see a TDR error related to Dicey Dungeons. This led me to the usual suspects. I tried newest NVIDIA drivers, then several older versions of the drivers. I used DDU in between every driver install. I extended the TDR timeout threshold in the registry to as high as 60 seconds, and this just locks my video output for 60 seconds, and the game still crashes. I also looked through the Steam Discussions for the game and found someone with a similar problem with an NVIDIA 680 graphics card but it appears his problem was solved by changing his localization and language back to English. English is and has been my primary setting.

I have no other problems with any other game crashing on my system.

To be fair, my system is ancient by current standards:

Nvidia GTX 770 2gb model
Intel i7 4820k
32gb Ram
Win10 Professional, Fresh install October 25th 2020



Could someone point me in the right direction for the error logs for this game, if any? I did not see the "_windows" folder in the steamapp directory for this game where other posts say they have found errors.

If any one has any other ideas, please let me know. I am very competent tech wise, and will seriously consider any advice regardless of complexity. I am even OK if the answer is a general incompatibility, it would just be great to have some confirmation. Nothing like spinning your wheels on a problem you can not solve if its just unsolvable.

I really love this game, just the constant crashing is KILLING me lol. Thank you for any info or help you may provide.

Different graphics card, same TDR error. Did all the usual fixes, drivers ect. New drivers have the same issue. Memtest/chkdsk ect all fine.

Dicey dungeons is the first and only game that has caused a TDR.

Sorry I never updated this thread, I suck. But the fix wasn't what I wanted it to be unfortunately. I was able to replace my video card with a 1080 that my good friend was selling to me at a great deal when he was able to miracle a 3080 at MSRP at launch. And that being the ONLY change fixed my TDR issues in Dicey Dungeons. Nothing short of swapping the graphics card to a slightly newer NVIDIA generation did the trick.

This leads me to believe it could be a Game Version / Driver / DirectX 12 / Windows 10 combo issue with the older NVIDIA hardware such as the 600 and 700 series. I never had problems till the most recent builds of Windows 10. I don't have a good answer. I tried a whole bunch of different driver releases going back as far as the mid 3XX.XX releases of the NVIDIA drivers. Changing the TDR timeout settings in the registry just prolonged the time it took once the game stopped responding to just crash back to desktop and report the TDR error. I can imagine that maybe its some unknown issue with my actual NVIDIA 770GTX but this was literally the only game or application that crashed on my machine.

I would suggest if possible, simply trying any other graphics card just to rule out a defective graphics card especially if you can try one of the same generation for a sanity check. Short of that this error made Dicey Dungeons unplayable for me, which was a shame as I do enjoy the game.

**Also, complete side note, I never had a crash at all on my old Lenovo laptop with a dual core I5 and on board Intel Graphics playing Dicey Dungeon which really got my goat.

Tried this, game crashed about a minute after starting a new game. It usually crashed after about 20 minutes, so this solution did not work for me. This issue is a real shame. I love the game, but the constant crashes render it unplayable. I'll eventually build a new computer and hopefully a new GPU will make this game functional again.

Very very pity :-( Crash Fix Guide work for 3 people & me fine. one guy has merely problems with 1980x1080p, but not with 1280x720p ... a other cant play in fullscreen ... many many crazy bugs in this game ! i wish all Good Luck

I'm getting these errors too, game is unplayable if I can't find a fix. Huge shame because I really like it-any word from the devs on this? I'm still short of the 2 hours so I can at least get a refund if there's no fix, but I'd love to keep the game and keep playing.

I've tried all of the proposed solutions with no success. I haven't seen anybody with a TDR error find a definitive solution. Last ditch effort-anybody have ideas here?

Same TDR problem here. Old i7 PC with an ancient Geforce 680. I posted on the Github about it a while back (v1.10), but still having the intermittent crash problem: https://github.com/TerryCavanagh/diceydungeons.com/issues/2245

My gut based on this thread is that we really just need to get newer PCs :(
