Try disabling your antivirus.

Problem persists through several updates. Antivirus being on or off makes no difference.

Can somebody please tell me how to fix this? I'm sick and tired of having to reboot into linux to play this.

Also for those curious of how I've been able to play so much despite this issue, it's because I'm not in windows very often. I mainly play in linux with proton turned on. I'd rather not have to reboot into linux every time I want to play this game though.

Hey - I see you've emailed me about this, hopefully the fix I've suggested sorts it out. But just noticed the mention of playing on Linux! I wonder if there's a string encoding thing going on here when steam cloud transfers the continuesave.json file from one operating system to another? That's something I can look into - when you started getting this crash bug, do you remember if you were mid run on linux?

I don't remember. I might have been. I certainly was playing in Linux before I started in Windows.
