[Bug] Can't Continue
Just bought the game, considering a refund if I'm not able to play a day in.

Heya! I'm sorry that you're getting this crash - if the game isn't working for you, you absolutely should just go ahead and get a refund - I've updated the game six times in three months, and I try to fix everything I can, but we're a tiny team, and there's only so much we can do.

Steam's refund process: https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=6695-QIKM-7966

That said, I'd love to try and figure this one out - I don't think I've seen anyone encounter this bug before! Could you send me a copy of your save files? You can find them in your "C:\Users\%USERNAME%\AppData\Roaming\Terry Cavanagh Games\diceydungeons" folder - just zip it up and send them to me!

Woo, just found another example of this one in the wild, and it sounds like they've got a save file to send me to replicate it - https://twitter.com/Akshay68_/status/1192834580966850566

Hopefully will have this one figured out soon! It's been impossible to track down!

This bug is supposed to be fixed in the next update. By the way, in the meantime, you can just start a new game. Only the progress on the current episode gets overwritten. The episodes are short enough that you can play through them in one session.

I get the exact same crash. Would be grateful if someone has found a fix and could share it.

I'm having the same problem when trying to resume a game, but only on one of 3 machines!
On the "problem" machine, it seems to happen every time you try to resume a game:(
The game itself is great, and everyone is loving it, however:)
We got the game from itch (running latest version), and are running Windows 10 64 bit.
Is there anything I can do in the meantime to work around, e.g., is there something I'm doing that is triggering the problem somehow?
My son seems to think that all of his progress is being overwritten when we start a new game (e.g., he loses his fancier "cards"), so it would be nice to get around the problem.

Just got the same issue as well, same error on 2 windows 10 machines. Is there a workaround for this other than starting a new game? Thanks.

Just posting here, because this thread seems more up-to-date/recently bumped than the other one I just commented on.

Just here to say I've got the exact same problem. Tried disabling the firewall, trying to get the appdata/roaming folder to stop being read-only (but this seems to be working as Microsoft intended), reinstalling and rebooting multiple times..

Are there any updates on this bug?

Got this game last night, and this started happening today. Weirdly enough it didn't trigger the first time I continued from save, which was on the first episode (as warrior). It wasn't until I completed it, then started the first episode as thief and then left part way through, that this started happening. I haven't overwritten it, should I send the save data and log data?

The developer replied to some other threads on this (I think it's the same problem):
https://steamcommunity.com/app/861540/discussions/0/1753520068683252630/
"this one is fixed and should be in the next update".
And a somewhat workaround (I've not tried it, my kids are playing other stuff for now and I'm just stopping when the episode is over each time):

"This turned out to be a bug that could break run saves if the Jester happened to be on a floor when you saved, depending on where they were standing"

Hi i loved your game and played more than 40 hours then suddenly when i was playing null object reference error popped up. Do you know why ?

No idea! Do you have an error log/more details? (It won't be related to this particular crash, which has been fixed for months)
