Conveyor belts have me flummoxed
I was so sure I understood the information on them. In the pic the barns are set to get logs, and the... whatever they were called on the other end are making paper and planks. I only just a few minutes prior changed the setup to be like this, but there are logs in the barns, 100%.
Why... isn't it working?

I think the problem you're having is that the arrow coming out of the barn is misleading. In the past, the barn would always squirt items out onto a belt. But the arrow kind of means nothing these days as far as I know. You need to have a "grabber" pulling stuff out of the barn. If you take a conveyor belt and start it at the barn pulling it away, it should automatically place one. But if there isn't one there, there's probably one on one of your toolbelts at the bottom, or failing that, you can find it in Build/Logistic blocks.

If there's only one type of item in the barn, it'll default to that item. If there's more than one, you'll have to click on the grabber and specify what you want it to grab.

So the information STILL IN GAME that grabbers automatically form when you place belts is a lie?

Grabbers do automatically form when you place a belt travelling away from the building.
I have no idea what order you place things in but you can just add a grabber now.

you can also make them 1 tile away but you'll have to learn the hotkeys to quickly place a grabber and set it manually

The game does automatically place grabbers in most situations. There are a few cases where it doesn't - most notably, if you move existing things instead of placing new ones - but in general, if you start constructing a belt next to an existing building, you will automatically get a grabber.

If you end up in a situation where you don't have a grabber, you need to add it manually.

They're created when you place belts. They won't be created if you move an existing belt so that it's adjacent to a building. They may or may not be created when you place chutes; it depends upon whether the adjacent building is output-only or has both inputs and outputs.

The green arrow is a bit pointless. It mainly just indicates which way the building is facing, although a loader will automatically be placed at that point if you run a rail past the building.

That green arrow is a holdover from a previous EA version. Used to be that green arrow was for outputs only and nothing needed to be attached to that 1 point. It just worked taking items out of a building.

Now its deprecated to showing the front of the building.

Additional tip: the grabber only gets auto-built if you put down a belt facing away from a building but you can overwrite the belt direction afterwards, i.e. you want to transport the items alongside the building, for example if you have a building directly next to it so only one space to put the belts.

Or put down the belts in the direction you want and put the grabber on it by hand (via build menu) as said above,
