YET, it would have been amazing to have 100 CK2-like Senator characters, you could play as or against in the most intriguing fashion, never been displayed in any ROME computer game before, instead the already well trotted path of any PDX game ever?
And I am not talking "modders". This is a professional gamdev thing still to be done?! As an American Philospher once said: "It is nice to want things" (Shane Bettenhausen, ca. 2005 AD).
I'm not certain playing as a mere senator would be so great.
Though to certain players it could be awesome, I hardly see the average player to be interested in a feature like that, unless they'd give them something more than intrigue to play with?
You would play it much like a character in CK2 or a country in EUIV. The gameplay would consist of endless decision and events, forcing you to build alliances, gather wealth, trade with fringe Roman colonies in competition with everyone else, lend money to others, invest in adventurous plebs, buy/sell slaves, plot against your fellow Senators, influence other Senators & families, influence generals, become a general yourself when it is your turn. Conspire against Caesar to become yourself Caesar.
I cannot see, how this is NOT interesting for any Rome-based game.
[Disclosure: I did not follow ANY of the previous "Dev Blogs" - hence don't know anything about this game other than this update. I was trying to avoid any info, but now, it looks to me, just like any other PDX game ever ... with a Roman pig skin. Too abstract for my decadent Latin tastes.]
[I'm not in a better position, I had forgotten I was following the game until now.]
Well, now that you detail it it does sounds great, it just would need to be active enough so that it doesn't feel like 5 speed simulator.
Probably late this year or early next year is my guess.
The game you're looking for is this one

I think Imperator, by CA, could have some aspects of the boradgame, but it will be a lot different.
