combat in invictus mod
I would just like some quick advice on unit composition. I played vanilla as rome and of course my legions beat everyone with ease. with this mod they basically suck, what should my compositions look like for an effective fighting force? heavy infantry with 38% discipline and a combat bonus against most other types of lighter cohorts I guess just does not do it

I've been mixing HI with spearmen as the basic unit mix. However heavy cav and elephants are better frontline troops to kick a battle off. On the flanks, it's horse archers, camels or light cav, in this order of preference. Apparently many kills are only scored when a cohort runs away and the cav pursues them to get a round of free attacks.
You also need to work with the available combat width, there's a little section about this on the wiki called deployment. The same units can have variable strengths depending on their order of deployment and flank size.
okay I see, that's very good to know. proportionally, would you say 4 heavy cav front (more?), 4 light cav flanks and rest is heavy inf/spearmen? it is very useful to know now about how damage is inflicted and for heavy cav to be in front. thanks so much!
