Beta installation "How-To" for Steam beginners
To install Beta 2.0.4 announced today by Paradox, here's a quick checklist of steps:
1. At Steam Library, far left of screen at the list of games, right-click over "Imperator: Rome."
2. Left-click "Properties."
3. At the pop-up, left side menu options, scroll down and click "Beta."
4. At the top of pop-up, drop-down menu, select the last listed Beta version 2.0.4.
5. Steam will then install the Beta, nothing to click after selecting that version from the drop-down. You can also check your "DOWNLOADS" link at bottom-middle of Steam screen to see the Beta as a completed installation.

The confirmation of this Beta 2.0.4 has a couple tags but also a quirk to note:
1. Once Beta 2.0.4 is installed, the Steam Library entry in far left will now say "Imperator: Rome [2.0.4]" - yes, the Beta is listed in brackets as if part of the game title once installed.
2. The Imperator: Rome game launcher currently does NOT mention 2.0.4 so this is a current oversight or quirk. At bottom-right of the launcher it will still say "2.0.3" in small print.
3. Once you proceed to the main game page, with the art background of a shepherd boy looking out over the field of battle -- look in bottom-right of screen near the Clausewitz Engine icon, and you will see "2.0.4 (Augustus)" confirming you are playing this current Beta.

Good one.

I just wish it were less steps to install a Beta, and was even more simple (such as a box-check on the game launcher or such). While it's obvious to many of us who have been in Steam for years, I never make assumptions that either a new-to-game or new-to-Steam player understands the steps to do such things on this platform.

Very true.
In Imperator: Rome game chatroom one of the players was asking how to access the beta the other day. I just shared this thread link in that chatroom. It helped.
