Peace Treaty 100 Point Limit?
I conquered all of Carthage as Rome but when I demanded peace I could not take all of their land. Each bit added to a score and there was a limit of 100 points. This was really annoying as I specifically extended the war as long as possible to take everything. Why does the game not allow you to take all the provinces and cities conquered?

because they are a too big power so you cant annex everything. Actually makes sense, most wars in ancient history didnt result in total annexation of the enemy territory.
And btw you should keep and eye on culture and unrest when you get so much new land as rome

The annoying thing is that I didn't know this and wasted years and thousands of lives conquering the entire country. Now that I know, what is the best way to know when to stop as you won't be able to take everything beyond this point? Do you just have to guess?

It's harder to do this in Imperator than EU4 because of the UI *shakes fist*

but uh, once you achieve ten warscore, select all the stuff you want and see how warscore it costs.

After taking the capital of a province open up the war tab to sue for peace and each province will show what they add up to as part of the warscore. Taking money also increases that score.

Thanks for your replies. I am not that knowledgeable about the Punic Wars but didn't Rome completely destroy Carthage after winning the Battle of Zama, which is literally next door to Carthago (a city likely to fall to Rome very early just because it's so close to Sicily). It seems a historical outcome is highly unlikely in this game.

During the first punic war the Romans took Sardinia, Corsica and Sicily as far as I remember. In the second war Carthage had its power completely diminished and weren't allowed to form an army, basically having to ask Rome for permission to do anything. The third punic war came from Carthage trying to defend itself against its neighbours and in raising an army to do so the Romans destroyed the city and annexed what was left of their lands.

grab a hold of all the stuff you want in the peace deal then hover over the red X in there. It will tell you why they are refusing the deal and how close you are to getting them to agree.

With that in mind you can then plan wether you want to spend a couple years taking more territory or just grab a bit less right here and now
baldrick May 18, 2019 @ 9:46am
Thanks again. The problem with nibbling away at Carthage is the truces. You want to grab as much as you can in a single go otherwise you have to wait years for another opportunity.

I may start again, as Carthage this time, and see how the AI does as Rome (not holding my breath!)
Mikey May 18, 2019 @ 9:52am
the truces aren't really much of an issue, just do wars elsewhere while you wait it out (it's "only" ten years)

I didn't really check, do the truces scale with the peace deal like they do in EU or are they a set time like CK?
Captain_Narol May 18, 2019 @ 10:48am
Set time like in CK2.

you can look if carthage has some minor countries. After your peace with carthage you can go immediately at war with that small country. Carthage will join this war and maybe lead the enemies against you -> you can crush them again with no stability suffering.

I just did that as Byzanz against Phrygia. They declared war on me and lost. 1 Month later I declared war to a 2 city state at the aegean sea and phrygia went to war again against me. Boom, they lost again.

But you have to look. It doesn´t work with every puppet. I didn´t look if that small country was a client state or a tribut state. On the other small country I looked, I would have suffered the -5 stability.

When you get to about 85 warscore the ai will give you a 100% peace deal. Give or take. I've seen them take 100% deals at 75 warscore, but most often it's about 85

At early game sometimes if I defeat a nations military once and conquer a single city, they will offer me a peace treaty & will give me all their land lmao

AI is silly

You use the Peace Treaty to break up a large Empire into separate pieces that can not support each other and wait for the Civil Wars and Rebellions (and invasions by other enemy countries) to weaken them. You also grab control of key locations and resources and deny them to enemy.

While you rebuild your strength (manpower and money) in the 10 year Peace and increase the loyalty and stability of your population and family member characters who are your generals, governors, and officials of your government so that YOU do NOT fall apart in Civil Wars and Rebellions, and/or Succession Wars.

You can also attack a different enemy in the meantime.
