Egypt, tried moving around and I couldn't use it anywhere, cities, settlements, low pops, tons of pops, nothing.

military colonies are made by your army when on tiles that you dont own (not sure if you need to use a legion or if it is possible with levies) also it isnt automatic ofcourse theres a button in the armies information

Essentially if your legion is on a tile and that tile has less than or equal to 5 pops and you press the military colony button; a freeman pop of your culture is deposited in that tile. However, you lose some money and manpower everytime you do it. I guess the purpose of it is to spread your culture/religion and increase pop size in any location of value to you. For example, in my Antigonid gameplay, I used this feature to add pops to a mountain province in northern macedonia where a fort was. I think it made it easier to convert the other minority pops in that tile. Also if you plan to turn that tile into a city, its a free boost of up to 5 pops of your culture.
