How soon do your start conquering
As Rome how long do you wait before you start conquering territory and how long do you typically wait between campaigns?

As Rome you can start conquering as soon as you get claims on your southern neighboors from the first mission.
Your millitary is way stronger than your neighboors so it's no problem to take on enemy alliances.
If you get your first Legion early, you can steamroll everything since Roman traditions makes heavy infantry OP.
I conquer territory while staying under 50 AE since the debuff from it till then is small.

Right from the start, and I don’t stop until I control the entire mediterranean. AE usually stays around 90
