army morale broken? suply mechanic doesn't make sense?

My army morale is full but after I encounter an enemy army, in the battle for some reason my morale is very low, but enemy is mostly full. I loose battles like 15k vs 4k very fast. Almost all wars are like this, in multiple campaigns. Is this normal?
Also I didnt really understand this mechanic but is there both a suply limit in regions and the suply that the army carries? Why would the army need suplies from enemy regions if they already carry their own suplies?

Congratulations, you have encountered this game's utterly stupid UI. If you lower your army maintenance in the finances screen your armies morale bar still remains full because whoever designed the UI was drunk.

Don't believe the morale bar, just always double check your finance screen and make sure your maintenance is raised for several months before declaring war.

Doomjazzer already mentioned the main possible reason, so I just add some numbers. Low army maintenance give Decreased Pay effect which lowers the maximum army morale on 80%. If my current maximum morale is 3.86, after lowering army maintenance it drops to 1.30 still showing being at maximum.

It helps while sieging or performing deep raids when you don't have access to province's food supply especially if your army is large.
