Question about Trade Goods
Ok, I really don't get this. Part of the Mission of the Syracuse Greeks is "The Horn of Plenty", I need a surplus of 6 grain. In my Empire I have far more than 6, controlling South Italy, Sicily and parts of Carthage. But it remains on 5/6, even though I built farms on all of them.

I pondered maybe only the area which is not governed by governers counts, but within the Magna Gaecia mainland there ARE only 5.

So my question is: is this a bug? Am I overlooking something? Can I change what is produced in a province and if so, how?

You need to have 7 grain in your capital province, giving you a surplus of 6. You're one short. Import another grain into the province, or shift slaves around to reach the next slave tradegood threshold in one of your grain producing territories of the province.

Fascinating. I seem not to know a whole lot, because I largely do not understand what you mean at all. :(

Btw the Mission says Import doesnt count.

lol Okay, so in a single province, each territory produces some kind of trade good. Let take Syracuse.

Syracuse has:
  1. 2 wine producing territories.
  2. 1 horse territory.
  3. 1 vegetable territory.
  4. 1 fish territory.
  5. 2 wood territories.
  6. 2 grain territories.

Each territory produce 1 copy of it's trade good base. When a territory has enough slaves, it produces another copy. The number of slaves depends on tech, whether it's a settlement or a city, and buildings built in the territory, but at base it's 15, and 10 if you built a farm or mine. All those copies are added up, and anything beyond the first is considered a surplus of that good you can export for trade.

To complete the mission, you need to have 6 excess copies of grain. From your description, it sounds like you have 5. You need to either:

  • move slaves around to add enough to either of the grain producing territories to produce another copy
  • or import another grain from a different province than Syracuse into Syracuse, using trade routes.

That will give you 6 and let you finish the mission.

edit: If it says import doesn't count, then stick with the first option.

Ok I had built cities on the tiles and then they changed from Grain to something else, so I razed the cities, built farms and send 15 slaves into each, but now I am down to 2/6.

According to the mission code:

syracuse_2_10 = { # Horn of Plenty icon = task_diplomatic requires = { syracuse_2_6 } allow = { custom_tooltip = { text = syracuse_2_10_allow_tt root.capital_scope = { NOT = { is_importing_trade_good = grain } } capital_scope.state = { trade_good_surplus = { target = grain value >= syr_mis_2_10_target } } } } on_completion = { trigger_event = { id = me_syracuse_2_sicily.15 } show_as_tooltip = { add_country_modifier = { name = me_syr_2_10_cmod # Export income and global food output duration = 7300 } } } }

What I said is what you're supposed to do, and it has a "no imports" exception clause like you saw.

Under the trade good section of the province, what does it currently say the number of produced grain is? It'll show the icon for the first, and then put a little circle on top of it with a number for every surplus copy you have.

You didn't move your capital, did you? Because it's not specifically linked to the province of Syracuse, it's linked to the province Syracuse HAS as their capital.

And it's possible that number is telling you how many more you need.

It says there is a surplus of 3 exported. How can I stop that? Does that make a different?

No I didnt move my capital. I didnt even know I can. Ok I see I produce 4, but when I produce 4 and export 3 how I can now stand at 4/6?

GAHHH this drives me crazy. I am really about to give this game up, I dont understand any of it. :(

Go to your trade screen (9th icon across the top from the left), and cancel the trade routes you made that are exporting grain from Syracuse to wherever you're exporting it to.

Can you show me a screen shot? Just select the province, hit F12, upload it to Steam, and paste the shareable link in the comment and it'll show it here.

Ok apparently now 6 are created in the Capital Province, 3 in each of the 2, but 5 are traded away. How can I stop that??

Oh GOOD HEAVENS. It worked now. I feel like I did a lesson in Quantum Physics. Thanks for keeping up with me. I fear of all the many things I overlooked and am still unaware about.

You do know that you have to let the game run for a bit to update those things, right? Usually a lot of things are rechecked at the start of a month.

And glad you finally got it figured out.

Oh, and it's also possible that it didn't matter if you exporting the surplus or not, just that the province was generating that much grain. Not sure precisely which "trade_good_surplus" means. I'm reading it as the province has to show a 6 under the trade good.
