Chariots still don't have a Trade Good
One of the bigger reasons why Chariots were garbage on release

Apart from the fact...
- They had the worst stats
---- Fixed by giving them an extra +5% against LInf and +20% against Archers
- They cost literally twice as much as LInf and Archers
---- Fixed by increasing the cost of LInf and Archers by 50%
- They cost more than the very powerful LCav
---- Fixed by reducing the cost of Chariots by 25%
---- and increasing the cost of LCav by 17%

They have no Trade Good associated with them.

So while they are now useful for a little while, their usefulness is completely gone by the time you have expanded slightly and now have the Trade Good for any other unit providing 10-15% Discipline for that unit.

Even Ships! have a Trade Good with Hemp!

This is easily fixed too, just change Leather to provide Discipline for LInf and make Base Metals provide Discipline for Chariots!
--- But that would be a huge buff for LInf!

Okay fine!
Make Base Metals provide a Defense bonus to both LInf and Chariots, and make Horses provide a Discipline bonus to LCav and an Offense bonus to Chariots.

Oh, HCav don't have a Trade Good either

Explains why they are pretty awkward too

But chariots were largely useless by the time period, so historical accuracy?

I do enjoy some historical accuracy, but I don't enjoy false player choices

Chariots are only good if you are tribal from my understanding.

They have a tree that essentially provides 20% Discipline

but for example, Rome has a tree that nearly provides exact same to Heavy Infantry, and Heavy Infantry has a Trade Good providing another 15% Discipline

As others have stated, by the time of this game chariots were already obsolete. Some cultures still used them though- most famously against Caesar during his invasion of England, which is why they are in the game. I will only typically use chariots in the early game in my center to counter archers when I play as a barbarian or in India until I can get better units.

That being said, I think giving them a little more maneuverability would be appropriate- they were faster after all, and would make them a little more useful until you can get better cavalry.

And heavy infantry outmatched chariots from this time forward, so I feel like it kind of levels out historically. I get where you're coming from, mind, I just personally don't mind a ton because... Well, for one thing, chariots provide a flanking bonus without horses, which is where their usefulness comes in. They're basically "free cavalry".

... Don't they? If they don't, I'm modding that right now.

They don't

As far as flanking is concerned Chariots, Light Infantry, Archers, Heavy Infantry are exactly the same

They also don't get any over-map speed bonus like the other horse units.

They're basically not cavalry at all

sick burn
thanks for contributing~

I think all chariots really need is a minor speed and maneuverability buff- maybe put them on par with heavy cavalry to make them somewhat useful until you can get real cavalry- I'm ok with them not having much for bonuses and being expensive, but as of now they are mostly useless.

What I absolutely hate about chariots is the 'bonus' to Indian cultures is the ability to use them... plus their traditions are cluttered with chariot perks, which makes Indian traditions the most ♥♥♥♥♥♥ in the game. At least barbarians have free armies- Might be a little off topic, but Indian Rathas should give Indian cultures a unique chariot... maybe a chariot archer unit that gets a bonus against elephants or something to make them actually useful and fun.
