Phrygia is the fun police
They make greek gameplay very unfun.

when they guarantee every man and his dog that is, but this time around Macedonia did the dumb thing and allied with Thrace so Phrygia never helped them and I stomped all over them.

In my Sparta playthrough they absolutely were, I could do nothing without either having trouble with Phrygia or Macedon. In my Rome run Phrygia vanished from the map after a few years and now there is a patchwork of little states, which creates the power vacuum you need to expand with smaller nations, but with Rome I would have preferred a strong and united Asia Minor :P

Are the Diadochi fighting each other as historically in the game? Phrygia was in fact held by Antigonos and he spent the rest of his short life in battles.

yeah in my current Sparta playthrough all its doing is just sitting around like a mortally wounded donut it has a rebellion in the middle that formed into a proper empire so now its c**kblocking anything they try and do so its a mutual cold war. And Selucia got India rammed so they're falling to pieces.

If you play Sparta (very small local power), you simply cannot pretend to conduct the dance.... you just sit back, consolidate and wait for the opportunity to strike.

In your case you wait for Phrygia to just be annihilated to pieces by 10+ concurrent wars that will naturally happen to such big extended blobs......

I am playing Sparta too and i have now half of Peloponnesian region.

I had the whole Peloponnese, Crete and countless little colonies around, but sometimes you come to a point, where there aren't any small powers left and a bigger clash is unavoidable. If you're really unlucky, neither Phrygia nor Macedonia are screwing up and then it's really hard to continue, because you can't build a good staple of allies, like you can in EU4 for example. This is not a complain btw, I like the randomness, it adds to the replayability.

Somehow it hadn't occurred to me that I could assassinate yet.

There's quite a bit more things to do than was obvious at first. Good to know about that assassination option...

Phrygia is a non-threat. They have to land all the way from Ionia and bring ships in order to attack you in greece. Plenty of time to cap their provinces and prepare for their landing. Their stacks are usually around 15-20k

OR play smarter and take Creet and rest of the islands around
I suppose most of my annoyance comes with not knowing the tempo of the game. I'm so used to the one in EU4 and I never played CK2.
FON Apr 29, 2019 @ 3:59am
Tempo is faster than CK2 and slower than EU IV.
