Its better not to get it up in the first place.
If your ruler dies then the Tyranny should be reduced significantly because it does not make sense for the my 70 year old cruel dictator to die and be replaced by a 16 year old and still be considered a tyrant.
I would not call it ridiculous because it makes perfect sense to have a measure of how out of wack your ruler is, but I have to say that the current mechanic needs to be balance a bit with how easy it is to get it compared to reducing it.
