So I'm doing a world conquest run as Rome
And I was wondering if anyone on these boards has done it yet or gotten close. I've got about 120 years left in the game and I'm wondering if this is sufficient progress so far

Seems like a good start, considering that you have 156 years left and noone can resist you (apart from Maurya empire, maybe ?)

How do you even survive such levels of AE? That is guaranteed rebellions for me...

On the reddit thread he said he maxed out his unrest reduction and that was enough to prevent rebellion. He didn't have any subjects; they'd have been instantly gone.

having no rebellions makes world conquest practically easy mode. Having above 75 AE should guarantee some kind of insurgence.

According to Roman, it's pretty well balanced as a game. He said world conquest was notably harder than in EU, so you wouldn't want to make it even harder.

I guess I also need to look closer into the mechanic of assigning cohorts to governors as a way to reduce unrest. I'll start with attempting Mare Nostrum first, see how far I get...

Not me I am still trying to take southern Italy

I assign 2 25 stacks of light infantry to each governor. 50k troops gives a -5 unrest modifier to most provinces. Except western delta in Egypt, that took 75k. Any region that isn't primary culture/religion gets 50k troops. Once even a small amount of the pops are culture converted, they stay loyal, pretty much no matter how high ae is. Rebellion only happens if 20% of my pops are in unhappy provinces. It's been awhile since I've seen that number go above 6%. So I'm kind of at the point where ae is just a number.

Great thing about governors garrison is they take care of slave revolts and barbarians for you. And if you are fighting a war against someone that has territory within the region they are governing, they will send the troops to fight. Makes big wars alot easier

Ye, that is pretty smart..

I'm testing out an alternative to what you've been doing in my current playthrough, instead of stacking huge amounts of troops in provinces I'm simply moving the majority of my pops to Latium at the cost of tech; currently have 50% of 1200 pops in Latium 30 years in
I don't have any garrison troops in Italy except for the areas in the far north that were tribes. Italy will never rebel since it's primary culture group. And if you culture convert them to Roman, then it's even more stable. The only real benefit you are getting from that is a massive capitol province. Unrest in italy is only an issue for a very short while in the early game when you are rapidly expanding and getting war exhaustion.

There's that village of indomitable Gauls you've avoided. Those guys will definitely give you trouble.

Indomitable are the Gauls ! Run, you fools ! Oops, I meant "Vae Victis".

With Asterix and Obelisk as leaders?
