Best way to deal with Pretenders?

I am in a Maurya game, and all has been fine until one pretender got popular and took all the support from my heir. 60 or so years later, still, one single random guy gets a ton of support and I am sitting at -50 legitimacy. I united India and will probably just convert for the achievement and then see how far I can go west, but is there an easier way to kind of control pretenders better? So far the most success I have had was getting my heir 16 vs his 32, but now it is back to being around two or three.

I rarely get the option to actually demand support for their. Guess I could try combining the rest and see what happens.

Their loyalty has to be above 40 to demand support, so keep everyone up

So I got the pretender who has 36 supporting him loyal, and he's a friend, yet still no option. It is getting really annoying too cause I have so many people not disloyal, but disloyal enough that it shows in the ledger, and eventually will be disloyal. Thankfully I can afford almost an army of 1k, so it shouldn't be an issue yet, but might just get the achievement and ditch the game.

Who is he actually supporting though? Because it only works on those who aren't supporting your heir.
