Saga mode generally ends around day 14-15, then it'll be an infinite cold night and you usually want to bifrost out and start a new run to try and do your goals quicker.
If you want to survive longer, that's what survival mode is for.
It's often unnecessary to upgrade all of the npc's all the way. Usually lv4 on the topleft and topright npc's for materials and weapons in faster runs.
I was realy finetuning my strategies to continue during the infinte night. So it's about being faster. Thanks a lot :)
1. Collect 3 Flint and 5 Branches. This will allow you to craft the first level of tools. If you want to be able to craft the second tier of tools when you return to town, collect 5 Stone as well. There are also starter kits that spawn you in already carrying tools.
2. Check the quest board and select any quests that seem the easiest to accomplish. They can give you powerful items and you'll need the Quest Fragments later.
3. Gather as many resources as you possibly can. Specifically: wood, branches, flint, stone, iron and ore. Upgrade your tools so you can collect materials more efficiently and level your Tinker up to 3 so you can start turning your materials into wrought iron, cut stone and wood boards.
4. Rebuild the Quarry as soon as you possibly can! Generally you should aim to have it rebuilt around day 2 or 3 but you can have it up as early as day 1 if you're fast/efficient/lucky enough!
5. Next, rebuild the Lumber Yard as soon as you can.
6. Explore the map and activate as many Shrines as you can. Finding the Land of Pools is important for upgrading your tools and weapons to the third (rare/blue) tier because it's where you can find silver.
7. Hopefully you've found the bridge OR the Shipyard by now. If not, keep exploring! It's good to clear enemy camps whenever you can, but the highest priority once you've done the other steps is to start rebuilding either the bridge or the shipyard so you can move on to killing Saga bosses.
- Both Saga bosses require a good bit of work to unlock before you can fight them. You can unlock and kill them in whichever order you prefer, but it will often be easier to do one or the other depending on the size of your group and some RNG.
Fenrir's lair is found just past the bridge and requires Quest Fragments (do a couple quests), Jotun Fragments (dropped from all Jotun), Event Fragments (Catch the 'Roosters of Ragnarok', free Otto the Adventurer or Honor the Stag), and Hideout Fragments to unlock the gate. Hideout Fragments are dropped from a chest at the end of a Hideout dungeon or they can be purchased from the Smoky Highlands sorcerer (vendor guy) for 1,500 souls each. They can also be a rare quest reward.
Jormungandr's lair is found on an island that you have to sail to, but you first have to sail to 3 other islands and light the beacon on each of them to unlock the gate. This one can be slightly tricky because you need to know where the beacon islands are to begin with. If you clear camps on the beaches, the chests usually drop a "Beacon Map" that will show you where those beacons are at.
Once you kill the Saga bosses, the game is basically over! You can bifrost out once you've downed them. Or you can stay in the game until day 16 since the Jotun spawn every other day and award you with 1 Horn each when you bifrost.
Just a few more extra tips that will help a lot:
- You can harvest trees, stone deposits and metal deposits without a pickaxe or lumberaxe by using your special abilities to destroy them. When you first spawn in, you'll have 3 full mana bars and you can instantly start harvesting.
- You do not actually need to defend your town from the Helthing attacks for the first 3 nights. Close your gates and just let the enemies hit them. The nights are short so the Helthings don't have enough time to break your walls down and your town tree heals all of the gates and NPCs in the town. Use this time to keep exploring and gathering materials! You should either have someone in town defending the attacks or build some archer towers at your gates once you get to about night 4/5 but you shouldn't need both.
- If there are specific weapons or gear that you enjoy using, be sure to look at the quest board. Some items such as Sigyn's Blade can be challenging to craft because they require materials that are rare or cost a lot of souls to buy from vendors. Oftentimes, quests will reward these items (even level II or III) so be sure to check, It can save you a lot of time.
- If someone else in your match kills a Jotun/Saga boss, opens a chest or completes an event, items drop for everyone. These items are quite important so be sure not to pass up on them if you don't need to.
- Your town tree heals a LOT more if you keep the soul count above 5,000 souls.
- Be sure to communicate with the others in your games whenever you can. If you're trying to rebuild a structure and you don't have enough materials or souls for it, tell your group what it still needs and they'll be a lot more likely to contribute.
Sorry if any of this was stuff you already knew. Hope it helps!
Also here's a big tip, since you mentioned "6th jotunn" in saga mode - the jotunns spawn based on when the last one died, so it's good to bring a jotunn down to 500 or less hp as early as possible and then leave it til it's at your base, ideally leaving an archer tower to finish it off. This ensures you waste less time on jotunns.
