Well, it does combine an interesting combination of core mechanics that we don't normally see together. rpg rogue likes with survival elements aren't really a thing. It's definitely combining a bunch of old things into something new, but it ends up doing many things poorly instead of a few things well.
I wouldn't call Tribes a survival or defense game though. More of a looter rogue like.
You are literally DEFENDING the tree. How is that not a glorified tower defense?
Tribes does have elements of Tower Defense, but they're set far in the background behind the game's other primary elements - progression, exploration, looting, and combat.
It would be dishonest to sell Tribes of Midgard as a Tower Defense game, it bears little in resemblance to the Tower Defense Genre. No choice in towers, no choice where to place them, no strategy. If this is tower defense, it's sorely disappointing.
All 3 genres combined, it works, and it's an OK game. Individually though all elements of this game are really boring and unnecessarily grindy.
Except that your hero wont be a spastic ball of 20 attacks per frame once the game gets close to an end and hyper imbalanced heros to choose from who can get reach gold cap in one special event (^:
But still, I do like the game and yes, thanks the devs for that, but I really dont like the devs either with how buggy it is.
I am fine for 1.0 to not have that much content, but it just gives feelings that the devs wont really care about the game itself and just want money. The biggest confirm to that feel is that there is a Cash-Shop ingame eventhough the game itself costs 20€
Yes you can earn the cash ingame, but can we if we look at the future of the game... like a year or so where they maybe fixed all the rough edges and have a fun game but its now trying more than ever to get more money out of you? xd
The just biggest concern is that I still cant have +1 potion as warden in multiplayer. Its like the most basic thing ever which gives me the feels that they dont test their game properly.
