Continental Dawn expanding pop
though i got alot of hours in DoM, i seem to be struggling with continental dawn. i thought i would hardcore it, and it seems that the pop wont rise above 300. so just in case, what am i doing wrong? i got more than plenty of food, enough animals are getting slaughtered, and the prestige is maxed out. still, my population seem to have found a point where it wont increase. or atleast, with the utmost effort. every raider attack doesnt hit harder than the last one, but it appears that the 5-6 people they kill is enough to keep the pop from growing.

Hi, it'S been a while since I heard from you! Have you beaten Everwinter by now?

The "max population" is defined per scenario. It is more like a soft cap and won't let you get much more than 300 people in continental dawn.

Easy way for high pop: Subscribe to my workhop items and :steamthumbsup:

Harder way, but with more benefits: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2431476343
Cheers!

so, most custom maps have a bigger pop limit? i didnt knew there was a pop limit on continental dawn. i can far outgrow this atm. kind of feeling sad now that i need to abandon this village cause it doesnt grow any bigger anyways.

so what is the pop limit of your maps?
Schwifty K May 15, 2021 @ 1:29pm
What I tried to tell you is, that you are able to convert your savegame file into a custom scenario where you can edit stuff like migration, births, raiders ... see linked guide.

The limit on most of my scenarios is greater than your current hardware might support. I've seen screenshots with 1000+ People.

i took a quick look at that, but its too much mumbo jumbo to me. i aint cut out for ++ editing. i prefer working on a scenario someone like you made that is already working on the get go.

after i looked at several custom maps, i think the continental dawn maps are better than them. dont get me wrong, im sure flatlands and mountains on the edges of the map appeals to alot of people, but continental dawn has some certain building difficulty with a right balance to it that you dont find on custom maps. either it flatlands with resources on the edges, or the terrain is too hilly to make proper villages. and some maps are just too extreme.

alright, i tried to follow your guide to editing savegames, and i did edit my savegame, but then i cant play it. it gives ERROR: Hardcore mode savegame has been tampered with. so i guess i cant edit the save. and when i try to edit the scenario i dont see any value's for a max pop.

unless its one of these
<!-- Parameters -->
<action type="SetMigrationParameters" min="2" max="4" period="1y" decrease_start_population="100" decrease_halfing_population="100"/>
<action type="SetBirthParameters" decrease_start_population="150" decrease_halfing_population="200"/>
<action type="SetTraderPeriod" value="0.7y"/>
<action type="SetDiseaseParameters" period="1.5y" variance="0.5y" individual_disease_chance="0.65"/>

in the savegame, i did saw <max_population value="329"/> but in the scenario file there isnt this. i also think this shows the value of max pop i ever had during that save, so i shouldnt change that value.

is the decrease_halfling_population the cause for why my pop doesnt seem to reach further than 300? is that what i need to edit in the scenario file?

so, i looked at some custom scenario's, and it seem that the setbirthparameters are causing the inability to go beyond a certain number of pop? if i would change these to -1, would that mean that there wont be any decrease in birth rate?

The Guide is about downloading the xml for continental dawn from madruga, insert into documents, copy savegame into the "new scenario", start a NEW game (with the version that is based on your savegame) and save the game - to create a new savegame [that can be loaded] - based on the custom xml that can be modified to affect stuff on load.

If you edit in your hardcore savefile and try to "Load Game" it won't work and give you the "Hardcore mode savegame has been tampered with" error.

The actions you posted are usually nested in the event that is executed while starting / loading the game. (Therefore it is pointless to alter those in the savefile [possible with normal mode] - your changes will be overwritten on load).

decrease_start_population="100" -> reach 100 people and receive less migrants
decrease_halfing_population="100" -> reach 200 people and receive even less migrants
Guess what happens when you reach 300 people with that setup :D

Switch the 100 with 9000 and don't bother any more :D

To get rid of the pop limit just increase both values to over 9000.
To receive more births [pregnant women whenever possible] I found -1 very useful, as it seems to lead to a high birth factor while the limit is compared with the current population.

Yes, im trying this out myself now. I downloaded your flatlands map and looked at the differences. I now should receive immigrants between 1 and 5 pop., With a half life up to 400 pop, and a quarter starting at 450, while regular birthrate was put at -1, since i can control this part myself (no houses = no growth anyways) i also saw at the start of the scripts the seed number for each map of continental dawn. I guess i can change this number for different maps, or are the maps set in stone anyways?
Schwifty K May 23, 2021 @ 7:49am
If you change the location (seed / environment) it will brake saves. There are some comments in Flatlands regarding the locations and environments. Good Luck!
