the previous version was good fun (ive unlocked everything and made it consistently to waves 100+), it needed a bit of a difficulty increase or more interesting enemies, thats welcome, but the spike in difficulty is so high i cant even get out of wave 15 most of the time without abusing the game, not to mention getting out of wave 50+ consistently
Killed the fun outright just to satisfy the obsessed doing everything to make it harder making the game into a niche BOI clone.
NOvadrift isn't the casual enterprise market that people asked for, and it was supported in the first place for its uniqueness and diversity of options to play it.
Just fix Celestials and add customization for individuality, instead enemies added with faux AI military strat's on top of baseless RNG which breaks the game and experience even on easy.
If the goal is trying to add strategy, RNGing all mobs and strategy don't EVER mix.
Even Issac in its glory days had balance in what spawns with what level where when and how.
This update and possibly series is just currently a lul Hodgepodge of chaos, no longer themed evolution with arcade flare which was what was interesting and different.
These updates are more like a one sided boxing match, and tastes like Nickle's.
Honestly I'm glad I didn't decide to join the discord that made this the result of a COD mindset, far from asteroids or its original scope.
This just looks like a shifted vision and I'm sure it will break from now on into a phone clone buggy ideas, and full of 15 different people who wanted everything outside of your original awesome and once fun balanced vision..
Simple and fun is never the hardcore, hardcore is the over-driven emotionless, furthest from FUN, and even the easy is busted and clearly untested because of it.
I left it as a heads up for the dev mostly, so he can check. If that's what happened, It would mean a keybind got changed in the latest update without user interaction.
means we are now the beta testers and that the dev isn't playing the game to test it for balance, that much Is clear by the purple enemies at the start as well as a lack of keybind tests. Maybe he needs to Hire some one to beta test his new unreleased builds before releasing them, cause even in Beta I never saw those purple enemies at the start in such a dumb pattern prior. Even 10 runs on easy is enough to get them 2x out of 8 starts.
I wouldn't say he doesn't play it, quite the contrary. But I believe he has a vision on what to do and where to take the game. My only gripe with that is that I don't find the changes done since the syzygy update, fun, but quite the opposite. I don't seem to share or enjoy that vision.
Repeated times it's been said the game was on early stages and many things could, can and will change with further patches. I believe I remember this because I've seen it written in almost every blog entry Chimeric does. Can't argue for big changes when they're announced with anticipation.
Nova Drift was a fun game I enjoyed playing after a hard day's work while spotifying my way through it. This changed with Syzygy. Asked for previous versions, got previous versions. Can't really complain if I'm being handed exactly what I ask for.
As I stated as feedback, I do think the game in its current form, is straying too far from what I liked it to be. But as long as I can keep playing that amazing game it was at the Ouroboros update, I'm fine.
I do get where you speak from and understand how you feel - especially having been into other discord servers myself (Want toxicity? Head to Fallout 76 and suggest anything), suggested some changes, and got backlash from it. People are reluctant to changes and my own attitude towards the ones implemented in this game are living proof of that. Nevertheless, uneducated backlash is what has kept me away from social hubs, with the exception of steam forums. So yeah, I get where you come from.
I can only suggest you to try older builds. At least you'll be back to the fun days.
Maybe the issue is the dev needs to stop playing the popular guy, and go back to the dreamer who liked fun as a kid.
It just seems more like hes building a game for others who are just mobs from the Binding of Issac fanbase.
But clearly its lost the Fun experimentation edge it once had, and will be near worthless having a sandbox mode due to the enemy types being structured off the easy make "more RNG". And taking all the logic of leveling per wave like most classic Arcade games with a scoreboard this game just seems to be stuck on trying to force a perfect RNG wave system.
Another luck based casino game where skill leads to a hard capped game over..
Not the feel good legendary days of you win! congrats! and thanks for playing..
Bet the story will be easy and fast, & before all this is over.. it's starting having a vibe of will it even have a conclusion probably a sequel for a better more stable flexible game engine.
I assumed Evolution and intelligence was the theme of Novadrift, and now it just seems the theme is: Big fish eat big fish. No hero, no little guy, just fight intelligence with no meaning aside survive endlessly and pointlessly.
I do hope that changes and things get tweaked, but clearly the update was rushed to be released as promised. And rather than make it right, test it their self, and then ask what others think from a professional pro and casual perspective it was just polished for the hardcore's in discord abandoning every casual in mind.
Ah simply put I WASN'T i was playing on NORMAL, and got jumped by 2 sets of long lines of Gnatlike annoyances and not enough weapon time for the weapon i picked to take on that many obnoxious pests but thanks for assuming my predicament.
Is there a way to uninstall and check patch notes / notified for updates as well?
The lack of feedback from the team when there is an idea not on discord or by known discord players, and the bad updates just tells me how much has changed.
Really it has just become another cult for hardcore playthrough's.
And it really shows how well that worked out..
I just hope people don't start to change their reviews as this is probably a snafu not a permanent issue.
I'm hoping the early level spawns make more sense; there is RNG tied to the wave number; the spawn count makes sense with the waves and mods, and the AI doesn't just spawn like 15 flying Einstein's set out to vaporize the player cause of Hurd Moode.
Hard mode should stay where it says Hard mode
Even hard mode needs scaling down leveling
