Mouse doesn't work

I can thrust and fire using the mouse but turning doesn't work, the mouse cursor doesn't show, I can't see how to set mouse controls to actions in settings...

I hooked up my steam controller to see how that was (I was quite happy with the mouse inputs, and is why I bought the game), and that doesn't give directional controls - just relative turning... would be nice if there was a mode to point in a direction and have the ship go towards that direction, much like the mouse input is(was).

Make sure you didn't accidentally tick "Disable Mouse Aim Detection" in Settings > Controls

Alternately, the game hides the mouse if it gets a keyboard or gamepad input to rotate - make sure you're not pressing one of those, and that there isn't something like an unexpected controller sending constant inputs (like a racing wheel, or an unused virtual gamepad driver)

In Settings > Controls, Gamepad Aim Style set to Direction is supposed to do what you're asking for.

nope that option is not ticked; ya gamepad directional isn't any better... (be careful of what one wishes for? :) )

Have the same problem with mouse aim. Does not work for me anymore :(

I'm not entirely sure what you guys are talking about; mouse controls work fine for me
