Can't beat the Scion Boss (wave 60)
I'm having real trouble on the pink boss who comes at wave 60. The spinnning orbs just wreck me. It's mostly the move where they expand out. Sometimes I can avoid them by staying in the corner of the screen and just waiting it out. But if the boss is in the center of the screen then I have to go inside the radius and then out again. This is a great time to get some shots if I have a close range weapon like torrent...

But avoiding these things is really damn hard. Usually I just get one shotted by them. Or at best I get knocked around by them and then taken out by the second hit.

I don't feel like my builds are that low on survival. Generally, by the time I get to wave 60, I'm feeling pretty balanced. Packing a solid punch and able to take the hits I need to take.

But then Scion comes and if I don't ace the dance around those orbs the run stops in an instant.

I've beaten him a few times, and have generally enjoyed another 20 or 30 waves after that. I could probably continue to learn about higher level builds and get further and further except a good 90% of the time I getting wrecked by what feels like a painful difficulty spike when those orbs start spreading out.

Anybody else having the same problem? Is there the one crucial upgrade or tactic that I'm missing that makes this manageable?

I'm pretty excited about this game, but I'm getting tired of being oneshotted by those orbs when I'm feeling pretty good about every other threat I encounter.

What helps me a lot with that one is sticking close to the screen edges and switching sides when he comes too close. I usually just time my shots to go through in between his orbs, and I don't try to get inside his radius unless I'm confident I can kill him before he tightens it again.

+1
Only go inside the orb radius if you can kill it before they return or you are fast enough and confident you can escape, you have quite a lot of time to fight the Scion and if you do the above you should be able to do it fairly easily.

That said I sometimes mess up and end runs on this one too, imo harder than wave 100.

Grenade, splinter, a few damage and/or blast upgrades, maybe burst fire to make it easier to slide them in between the orbiters. Won't take too many shots.

If all else fails, use Aphotheosis(super mod).
Aside from just in general being a imo top 5 mod with all it lets you do, it also means you can fly through the Scions orbs without being pinballed to death. You still take a bit of damage going through them since they have a bit of AoE damage but its no where near as much as if you get hit by them without the mod.

You can also combine it with the different Scorching/Deadly Wake mods and fly around inside enemies for bananas burn damage.

Ya I'd just wait for Enemy's 2.0; a lot of the old fun builds are badly stacked by Overly aggressive Spawns that seem to favor scaling types of enemy Ship's to spawn with Player Damage.
And for some reason the Waves modifier seems faster than before which pairs badly..

Do you have any sort of evidence that waves work like that because nothing that I have seen even hints at this being true, I would agree more if it was the opposite, that low damage builds gets punished by the wave spawn but thats only because without high damage things can quickly turn into a clusterF.

Try using Vortex On Mayhem and do the Spirit bomb Build.

Idk, it is very easy:
- Its first attach goes sideways so you can easily damage by staying in front of him or from back
- Second attack with flame beam is again easy - it is rotating slowly. You can easily survive by staying away or just orbiting him
- Stay close to him - when he starts expanding orbs you can easily sneak close to him, where he doesn't have any damage. You kill him quick especially with flame shield

There seems to be a huge difference in boss difficulty right now, Scion has ended so many of my runs its not even funny. but its early access and everything is still being balanced so...

This is what I do for this boss. Also, when rotating around the Scion, try to go in the same direction as the orbs. this will help when the orbs begin to expand out you can much more easily dive in and dive out.

Also, generally you can use the screen edges to your advantage. for example, if the Scion is close to an edge, such that the orbs go beyond the edge of the screen, you can easily dive in and out there with no fear of being hit by the orbs. They do not extend beyond the screen border (well they do a little bit), so it's as if there is no orb there for certain periods of time.

So, orbit in close during the thermal lance phase. Stay in front during the tempest phase and dodge in and out of the orb shield for a quick kill.

To be fair scion ends the most runs because he one that shows up the most often. Besides the first boss, who is... the first boss.

Omega never shows up again (thank god) Jugg only shows up at certain levels (and IMO is easier) and Seraph is much rarer, not even usually showing up between 100 and 200.

But yes I agree those stupid spinning testicles of his are annoying.

Stay in front when he's doing his diagonal attacks. You have time to move out of the way before the Thermal Blade comes out.

When the blade is out try to rotate with his balls, and stay just out of range. If you're close they will go right past you.

Be ready to make an exit when he draws them back in. If you're near the outside you usually won't get juggled. Then just drive away from the black hole, and repeat. Be mindful of the screenwrap.

Seraph definitely can show up randomly between 100 and 200.

It is, especially on steam forums, what with the awful blue background. Yes yes, you can have userstyles on browser, and even on steam client with some screwing around with css files.
