Not familiar with most of the mentioned games, but someone mentioned Slay the Spire, and I've been enjoying a game called Vault of the Void that's sort of like Slay the Spire meets Into the Breach. Personally, I like it better than StS, but of course StS invented a genre and is simply a must-try game.

So right now, it's VotV. Across the Obelisk, and when I want something a bit similar but very different, it's Nova Drift.

Steredenn is the first I think of, a side scrolling shoot-em-up with rogue-like elements, with high production value, and polish. Though it is closer Gradius and Raiden, rather than Asteroids.

Risk of Rain 2. Different in some ways, very similar in other ways. Cool off-meta grafix, hectic action, tons of stuff that goes boom, sooooooooo many different ways to fight and build your arsenal. This is what I imagine Slay the Spire would be, if it was an action game.

You play as a turret rather than a spaceship. It has a cool mechanic where there are 4 base weapons (Machine Gun, Sniper, Bomb, and Shotgun), and you then combine up to 4 of these into different weapons. For example, two machine guns makes a gun comparable to an SMG, but a machine gun and sniper combine into a gun comparable to a heavy assault rifle.
The enemies are also made in a similar way to the guns, in that there are 4 base enemy types and they combine into different types of enemies.
There are also different turrets and perks you can pick from before a run, as well as upgrades to your guns and turrets that you can get during a run. There are also several modes to unlock.

Reminds me a lot of older games like Space Pirates and Zombies or Escape Velocity.

Gunlocked has insane number of builds, weapon and upgrade combo
