Space Whale?

So, I was playing and came across a giant whale that spewed out XP with every hit. I couldnt kill it before it just left.

I dont follow the forums or lets plays particularly close, has this thing been around a while and just rare, or is it new?

Either way, it was kinda neat. I took a screenshot...no idea how to share it here, but I made it public.

I had some terrible charged missile build, so I didnt stand a chance at killing it. Every hit dropped piles of XP, but I think before it ran away I did MAYBE 1/10 of it's HP in damage.

It was added in the last update, and there wasn't any official mention of it. It was there since the experimental beta began, with very few reports of it spawning, so it's quite uncommon.
It was originally made for a joke announcement on April Fools' this year—apparently, fully implementing it in the game was somehow easier to get right than stitching it together in Photoshop.

I haven't come across this yet. I put tons of hours into the early days of Nova Drift, and have just gotten back into it. I'll probably do daily runs now. I'll keep an eye out for the white whale, arr!

I have almost a billion lifetime points in Nova Drift and I only encountered the whale for the first time last night. It was gigantic! Unfortunately a black hole spawned right after so I didn't have a chance to see if I could kill it or not. I think I got it down MAYBE 10% at most before the black hole destroyed it. I'd love to know if it's just random or if there's a way to trigger its appearance.

I noticed that others had whale sightings around the same time as me. Maybe the date/time-frame has something to do with with its appearance?

So far I've had it spawn 3 times. No idea what makes it spawn, if anything. I just try to attack it as much as possible suck up all those xp orbs.

If it drops an xp orb every hit it takes, something like siege torrent with interceptors. If it's based on damage taken, burn stacking with dart siege maybe?

Seems to be an orb drop with each hit, but orb size is based on damage.
