I guess I've got a good video card, and that's good to know, but I would be very happy if they stopped using FPS for the timing of everything. Isn't there something called deltatime? Seems very odd to use FPS for timing.

first world problems much?
I don't think we'll see many changes on that, until after the Switch version happens, at the very earliest, although that's just my own speculation.
The refresh rate of your monitor is not affected by the fps of the game unless you use vertical sync. Maybe you might find this article interesting:

Because 60 isn't smooth enough. There is a difference between just 60 and 75 and this is me playing on 60 for the past 20 years and only going to 75 in just the last year.
So for a game like this with a lot of projectiles it is just be better if everything was even more smoother.
And for that matter, half the mod trees are geared towards not giving a flak about where stuff happens, only for it to either be near you so it dies or far away from you so it dies over there.
Ideally we could have a draggable bar where we choose how much FPS we want, but I'd also be ok if they included the most popular monitor Hz, like 30, 60, 75, 100, 120, ...
This should be doable.
