Nova Drift

Good news, Linux users: Proton supports Nova Drift again
It looks like the latest official Proton version, 5.13, allows Nova Drift to launch from Steam, once again. As long as your Steam Client is allowed to update, you should have this. Huzzah! Whether or not this will continue to work is not something I am able to control, so an official Linux port is still planned for full release, or sooner.

Also worth pointing out, users who had a copy of the stand alone .exe (available from a few stores, including GOG and Itch) were able to launch it using Wine, as the problem related to the Steam overlay.

UPDATE 4/18/23: Proton 8.0 works!

Is this in any way relating to Vulkan?
Could we see this in the future?

The best thing ever, since DirectX is a monopoly of Micro-trash :)

Proton unfortunately isn't loading for me at all it says it launches and then doesn't ever open and stops trying after a bit

Not sure what your issue might be, but reinstalling steam may help. If not, upgrading or switching distros may be in order, for example linux mint 17.3 doesn't even run steam anymore for me.
Nova Drift fails to start on Ubuntu 18 LTS using Proton 5.13.6

I'll try dual booting Ubuntu 20 LTS tomorrow to see if that resolves the issue.

Edit: Upgrading to Ubuntu 20 fixed everything.

While Proton support is a great way to support Linux machine users, could you please also just enable Cloud Play?

As someone who is presently using a Chromebook, I'd love to see this title get flagged to be playable via GeforceNow.

It takes one click by the dev account at the following link:

Thanks.

EDIT: I was able to get it working after some fiddling.

Hello! Unfortunately I can't seem to run Nova Drift with proton (5.13), the same is true if I use the experimental branch. Any clue as to why this is happening or how to fix it? I bought the game on steam after having played an early release of the game on itch, which worked fine with wine. Wondering why it fails here?
Also if someone is aware as to how I can run the novadrift binary directly through wine I'd be eager to know. Apparently steam game need to be run through steam, or while steam is running?

I'm sorry, but I don't know. I think if Proton were failing for other players suddenly, I'd be seeing a whole lot more reports of it. The itch link is kept up to date with the latest releases, though. You can just re-download it. Does that help?

Updating from itch does not cause the issue. I believe the issue with proton is related to how I've setup wine on my system. Looking at what I had to do to fix it it seems coherent. Anyways I got proton working now so it's all good. Eager to see the linux release! Keep up the good work and thanks for the awesome game!
