Alternative controls - game mode + thx for game.
Just tested a little, great looking weapon system, clean graphics, well dynamic and flow, insta bought few minutes ago (tested on friends)...

But imHo, alternative controls to move with wsad (or twin stick), not to follow mouse would change a little. To use mouse only for aiming, not movement.
I agree this would affect gameplay and balance of all a lot, so as an alternative game mod with separate top score list and stuff could be required, sure. That could bring way different experience, whole new game, but as we already have some great content, that imHo could be used in different environment.

thx for the game anyway, stay safe in harsh days

[edit:] Found official FAQ here https://blog.novadrift.io/nova-drift-frequently-asked-questions/

"I wanted to do [...] "retro-evolution" of a 1970s - 1980s arcade mechanic I felt deserved more exploration. Forgoing twin-stick controls is core to the design and the titular "Drift" mechanic. "

So, ughm, even if i still think that could be fancy way of alternative way of play, this explanation is more fair i think. Maybe as soem dlc after 1.0 or dunno.

you can play the game without mouse (actually my prefered way to play). but thats still different from twin sticks.

Yes, but still cant aim at enemy and move back direction quickly (could make close range... could make most weapons kinda op)

Notably, you can mix-and-match ALL controls freely, at all times. I actually use the mouse for aiming and weapons/constructs, and the keyboard for thrust and everything else.

You can strafe with the mod conveniently named "strafe", and displacement super mod lets you blink in all 4 directions.

The strafe mod is stupid. It just blinks you all over the place and gets you killed.
I would prefer something like a wild mod that enables twin stikc mechnics but you cant leave the map at the sides anymore.

It's not stupid, you just suck at using it. I've watched a streamer use it extremely effectively, reaching wave 500+ easily by juking enemies and sidestrafing.
Full disclosure, I also suck at using it, but that's just me being bad at the game in general.

Its stupid - that may be slightly strong word, current system is definitely cool awesome n classy af, may be liked or not; This whole topic was made for an option to turn things differently;

To me, its like big rpg, where i can go full berserk or stealthy n slow, with same enemies, same map same combat mechanics loot items and almost all, but a rpg that lack crouch option. With just small tweak to controls which could make the whole game anew. Keeping things like now, feels like a big waste imho.

Strafe is very, VERY useful, and is pretty much essential for crash builds. If you don't like the mod, don't take the mod, but you have this one badly wrong.

You mean could make more than 2 weapons viable to reach 1mill points?
Treyell Jan 7, 2021 @ 11:41am
everything can reach 1mil points easily.

I too find the controls to be a bit slow and cumbersome. I understand that if this had twin stick controls the game would be very different. A big gripe of mine is that I often die only because of enemies ping-ponging me, and depending on what ship you are using it can be hard to quickly discern what side of the ship is 'forward.'

just no

I have tried and tried to hit 1 million. I'm a pretty experienced SHMUP player and I just can't do it, mostly because of the controls but also due to the fact that once you hit level ~150 or so the enemies spawn in so fast that if you aren't destroying them instantly, you're overwhelmed. That's a big gripe that I have with the game so far - once you get to a certain level it's like it doesn't even matter what build you're using because you're gonna get destroyed.

Then how did I get to wave 350 on Mayhem, at 2.5 million? I'll note right here, that while I'm decent with the game, I'm no "pro".

Juuuuust about 1 million is a common score, because that's very roughly where you hit wave 200 on Mayhem (gives more XP), which (just like 100) ends many runs.

the enemy spam lategame thing is hopefully going to be resolved when enemys 2.0 rolls out
