Best builds...tips and tricks.
I've been using the assault hull with the fire shields and grenades. Once you have the explosion radius and power of the grenades enlarged plus adding the largest spread shot and splinter it feels really damn powerful. Not sure what to do on the shield side of things or hull side except take the beginning stages of strengthening and regen rates and largening the radius of the shields. I feel I do fairly well with this build but I'm guessing I've got a lot of room for improvement as I'm not seeing quite the bigger picture yet with the numerous upgrades.

What type of builds do you try and run for maximum efficiency?

I like using grenades because they can one shot the tankiest of bosses, but they arent fast enough to keep up ~wave 65

Railguns are another insane weapon if you build up velocity
Suprisingly, a drone build (Any weapon+engineer+temporal) goes really far, i use temporal so the sheild effect radius+drone sheild can slow down all the things, halo works too

The best thing about this game is that there are dozens upon dozens of things you can go for.

I got my best score with the Blade weapon+Halo shield+Shielded constructs. This lets you shoot fire AoE's AT the enemies. Build for projectile count, burn damage, drone or allies maybe, and shooot shoot shoot.

I've also had good luck with shieldless ram/melee type builds. Go for as much hull/regen as you can.

Another great run I had was with Architect body+automines+loaded mines. I happened to have grenades with it, but this could be interesting with several weapons.

Halo shield is great, counters quite a few annoying enemy types, going for max size+effect is pretty good.

Adaptive armor is great, does a ton of work, and getting Rebuke is very handy for certain weapons.

Emergency systems is great, literally saves your life, repeatedly.

Railgun is great. Very flexible, works well with almost any weapon upgrade, and the piercing trivializes certain enemies. A simple "gun" build I did got me my rrecord for average DPS. (burst fire+charged shot did a lot of work)

Vortex, stealth, apotheosis, loaded mines. Just park inside bosses and let the mines do their thing while you stay cloaked.

I've posted a bunch of videos here on the community page with different builds to try out if you're looking for something different (they're the Ultra C ones)! The best part about this game is that so many different builds are viable. They all have strengths and weaknesses to leverage, but just about any build can have potential!

My current favorite build is the vacuum cleaner.
Start with [Vortex] and [Hullbreaker], get [Rapid Reconstruction] and [Charge Shot]. You're only interested in the charge up, not the actual effect at the end. It's a bonus - but the main damage comes from pulling enemies from across the screen. Most die to the absolutely massive Vortex and everything else crashes into your hull and dies that way.

Grab all armor upgrades that increase hull-strength and resistances as you go along. Over time, you can extend this with mods that trigger on hull impact and mods that cause and improve burn damage. It's absolutely bloody mad and easy to get started with.

Mods to avoid: Velocity increasing mods (unless offset by size/damage), shield mods (duh, you're gonna dump the shield). Velocity is self-defeating. While your main damage comes from the charge-up, the Vortex itself CAN deal significant damage if it stays within an enemy. Higher velocity makes it easier for the enemy to break free. Don't do it.

I've been using the exact same setup and it is leagues better than any other combination I've tried.

Vortex effectively gets better the more hull and regen you have, and being able to charge between waves lets you dunk anything that's not a boss almost instantly.

I expect its scaling potential is less than other weapons as there are a lot of mods that make it less effective.

My highest scoring build so far (reached wave 120, with all the difficulty mods on, 390,000 points) was a no shield, no weapon, hullbreaker, celestial lance and dying star build. Just flew around melting everything. You might need to grab a weapon to survive long enough to get the build going.

I've also had success with rapid fire, charged, volley (didn't get fusilade, maybe it'd worth it), homing (all the tree), auto-deploy loaded mines railgun build. Whole screen is just full of extremely deadly homing railgun bullets.

engineer + ally + railgun + some defense
Easy to roll up, no-worry build.

Got the game today.
Got to wave 100 today.

Engineer.
Salvo (but not for long).
Bastion.
Drones (Defense).
Ally (Interceptor).
Shielded Constructs.
Self Destruction.
Volatile Shield.
Discharge.
Elegant Construction.
Overseer (why Salvo didn't last).
About a billion shield recovery and armour repair upgrades.
About a billion shield durability and max armour upgrades.

Very much not taken in that order, of course. It was rough early in the run getting the ally first thing after the weapon/body/shield setup, then drones soon after. Focused on "try not to die" hull upgrades to begin with then started to refine the minions a bit (including the shield itself) before shifting the shields onto my army. By the time I did I had I think 10 defense drones and 3 allies (interceptor came up quite late in the run). Adding Discharge turned the whole thing up to eleven just in time for the 100th wave to come in and wreck my day in spectacular fashion.

Got my best score today : 800.000 wave 214

Railgun Loaded mines with the Supermod that let your projectiles go through another screen.

I took almost all weapons upgrades exept the Volley one because you lose too much dps, thats not worth it against multiples Elites and bosses at 125waves+

my best builds usually are "death of a star" style builds on sentinal.

I've had good success with the vaccuum cleaner as well, out of curiousity does anyone start off every build with research and then change over to the final ship type later with the added level boost, seems to work out pretty well for me.

Volley + Stealth so you can build up missiles in peace + Charge Shot (part of the weapon size tree) + Anything but the broadsider shots from the homing tree (guaranteeing hits with your weapon to the point that you can hit enemies behind you is necessary with Salvo) + Ally to deal with stuff while you're stocking up on missiles. Amp is also good for this as an additional multiplier (since this build works on the basis of killing the entire screen each time it fires), which means you should invest in the shield strength upgrade so you can get the upgrade that limits you to only taking 1/3 of your shield in damage at a time while shield is active, which is a very large damage reduction with as small of a shield as Amp. For reference, these are all upgrades you can get before you've gotten most of the unlocks.

The one I've gotten furthest with was Vortex + Stealth + Helix. I aim for Charged Shot, Essence Sap, and Corruption, with as many Hull mods as possible (including crash resistance ones). Other offensive mods are +magnitude and fire rate.
