I went for Spread to stack more shots per barrage, and Candescence/Corrosion to make those extra shots work that much harder.

Split shot(high firerate + big blast) - Decline shield - Research body( +hp from banishing mods)
Ataraxia
Regeneration - Rapid reconstruction
Hull mod - Plating - Forced hull
Candescence - Corrosion
Huge HP pull with a lot of defence and 10hp+/sec regen. You can shrug off and regenerate almost ewerything. Split shot + corrosion gives you a lot of easy-to-deliver dmg.
570k points at first try with all challenges on.
The odds of getting those exact mods are extremely slim. I'm able to get the 5 mod combo every time for barrage. I could of easily gotten further with salvo but I had a boss spawn on top of me pushing me into mines that I went to clear.
I've run many games where flame doesn't even show.
Banning would screw the achievement up previously. I think it has been fixed in today's patch. I had never been able to get the achievement with the research ship. You could always switch to it after you get the achievement-- switch to it, ban whatever, then switch back btw, but that would screw up the achievement, not sure now. No point in sticking with research long term when ataraxia gives you the long range exp pull anyway.
Also with the patch barrage + silo I think is now nerfed. It was ridicously overpowered before. Unlimited swarm of missiles doing 100 damage a pop.
I choose Research body because for this achivement its almost only useful body. It allows you to grow in strenght even without mods and even further increase exp pull range. Ataraxia with Research body let you pull exp across the entire map.
All this hull and regen mods far more reliable than weapon mods. Weapon mods work as "more the marrier" so when you have only 5 slots (2 reserved for flame) those mods dont give you much. With hull you can make a lot of mistakes and just shrug them off.
Aaand splitshot gives you all the damage you need due to 3 projectiles + very high fate of fire + good blast its stack corrosion FAR faster then salvo (4th boss, orange one, is just a joke with splitshot). Not to mention salvo rockets have less dps and tend to fly everywere instead of focusing 1 target
I'm not sure if you had tried barrage with salvo before the patch but it's a different beast. It focuses one target if you find the sweet spot. The eclipse boss (i think that's it's name) is easily cleared without ever being in danger. In fact the only thing that ends up killing me is a 4 wall mine. Now that enemy cargo trains (orange trollies with exp drops) are no longer cleared by missiles off screen resulting in no spawn, I'm pretty sure salvo will get the highest score depending on if it's been nerfed with or boosted with the new changes.
Lets just agree that we disagree? I still think that splitshot in this particular situation more efficient, and salvo all in all seems bleak compared to splitshot, railgun or godlike flak.
Well I think highest score will speak for itself. ;) I'll do a Ataraxia build with salvo, then I'll do a full run with salvo. We'll see.
Salvo is amazing.
Just calm while invis and one shot everything.
It blasting everything until the achievement comes.
If your playing with mouse I suppose rail gun is doable.
I can easily get to 600k with just salvo Pure of Mod and Body. I literally just hold the fire button down don't have to aim.
Managed to survive long enough with regeneration, bravado, rapid reconstruction, hull strength, absorption, improved thrusters, and deadly wake, in roughly that order.
forgot to take a screenshot.
Dart, Halo, Research
Volley
Targetting
Candescence
Shield Cooldown (or Shield Durability?)
Rapid Fire
Magnitude
Dart/Volley/Candescence/Halo gives a ton of burn damage benefits, further enhanced by Rapid Fire (most bullet) and Magnitude (Dart burn lasts longer and do more damage).
Research for Banishment, of course.
