Game is hitching like a mofo after the recent patch.
13900K / 4090 / 64 GB DDR 5

So it shouldn't be a system issue. But for whatever reason, after the patch today the game is hitching like crazy.

Hitching? What do you mean? Graphical glitchiness?

So it's like stutter but way worse. A hitch is a momentary, sometimes split second freeze, causing the game to have very poor performance.

When I move the mouse around it'll freeze in place then teleport to the location that I was moving towards, move smoothly for a half second then do it again. Prior to the patch there were no issues.

I thought it may have been refresh rate related as some games screw up on 360hz monitors, but I lowered it various times and it didn't change any of the performance issues.

Just patched... try now... also you should disable vsync on your monitor. That causes problems.

Never use vsync!

I'll give it a shot now.

Edit: Still doing it :/

Did some more testing: Runs fine on my weaker laptop (3070), but still can't play it on my desktop. Updated drivers too, just in case, but still no change.

Got powerpoint slide mode going still.

uh... that's odd. So your more powerful computer has issues? That's pretty confusing. I suppose I should optimize the skill animations a bit. I don't see why a computer with a 3070 would be better than a 4090. I do all of my testing on my dev machine with a 3060 card. It even seemed fine with my old 1070 ti card.

Maybe re-install? Another idea is forcing windows to use the correct GPU for NGO? You can do that via windows or ... I think via the nvidia graphics card: https://steamcommunity.com/app/22320/discussions/0/490124466478653678/

Not sure what's causing your issues, but I did just add a new setting that allows you to adjust particle density while playing. Hope it helps!

Well the thing about it is that the game just chokes as soon as it loads. So even the splash screens don't fade in nicely. I'm not sure any specific settings would help much when it's dying from boot.

No problems with any other games at all, so there's no hardware issue here that I'm aware of. And it was working fine on prior patches. Unsure if it could be something Win11 related messing with stuff but yeah... mega powerful rig is choking on the game for some reason.

We are discussing this in Discord. The only thing we can think of is G-Sync.

Let me mess with that and see.

Bingo.

For some reason the game hates G-SYNC. Not very often that happens!

Not ideal but at least the game can be played normally after disabling it.

That's great to hear. Sorry, I'm not sure why I said vsync the first time! Is that even a thing?!

Edit: Looks like v-sync and g-sync are both a thing. Confusing... 😵

Yeah, v-sync is vendor agnostic, g-sync is only on (superior) NVIDIA products :D

The same thing happened to me, and I had long since given up trying to troubleshoot it and consumed the "it's an early access game" copium. Never would have imagined it was g-sync causing the problem.

So, I seem to be having a very similar issue, stuttering that ends up leaving the game in an almost unplayable state. Seems to happen more regularly with higher numbers of animations. Running a 1080Ti and a decent rig, so not expecting to see stuttering of any kind. I'm running a 120hz monitor, and have tried every variation of refresh rate to see if it mattered without any luck. G-Sync doesn't pop up as an option to disable. Not sure what else to try at this point.
