Bugs/Fix list & latest updates
A list of issues, bugs and updates that I hope to fix in future updates and their progress. This thread helps keep track of it!

YouTubers/Streamers please be aware this game uses licensed music. Monetization may be at the discretion of the copyright holder, though I am happy to try and help with any clearances should they be necessary for you.

Although players can unlock The Study (bonus), please note it is a work in progress in version 1.0.4. Several features inside it are not complete/working just yet. Thanks for your patience!

Thanks for supporting my game development journey! This is my first adventure type game in Unity. Some elements may need tweaking after release. Rest assured, Mr. Maze will continue to receive updates and improvements over the next few months. And by nature of its design, any saved progress will not be lost when updating. Enjoy the game!

The game released on Feb 9th 2019 around 1pm PST. It is fully playable from start to end, however as it is a solo developed game it requires some further polish and minor fixes which will be ongoing for the next few days. Thanks for understanding!

A note about the notorious lag in Scrap Palace: This is being caused by the shipping container objects in the centre part of the maze (you will notice this by looking in this direction from most points in the maze except the centre itself). I have tried numerous things to improve the performance and will continue to do so, lowering texture size etc however, outside of rebuilding the maze in its entirety (not ideal) to remedy the problem - so far other adjustments to improve FPS have not been fruitful. Apologies about that but some good news as I now understand the cause and think in time, it can be fixed.

Currently 0 known major bugs and 0 new crashes reported. Oct 1st 2023

Known Issues (high, medium or low priority and current status)
- HIGH. Game crashes with Fantastic setting/video capture software, investigating.
- HIGH. Subtitles too low in HD resolution/cut off bottom of screen, investigating.
- HIGH. End of 2nd Thought Stone in Dungeon resets player in wrong place, (before or after reloading into checkpoint?), investigating
- HIGH. Thought Stone progress could be saved for when the player returns, currently found stone progress is lost on game quit, investigating
- MED. Game may crash after gauntlet thought stone, investigating.
- MED. Side of castle exterior boundary, investigating
- MED. Gameplay hint improvements, dungeon barrel objective & Big Jim's door visibility
- MED. Dungeon, strange teleport after barrel + map interact zone, investigating
- MED. Lantern (in HoHD) prompt stays active in some instances, investigating

Some folks use 3D Game Maker, which can probably do something similar and is designed for beginners I think. But Unity really isn't that hard, doesn't take long to pick up the basics. I might make a video tutorial in the near future about how to setup a simple game like this one. A simple maze can be setup in less than 30 mins.

Can I check are you using OBS Studio, or what version of OBS please?

using the current OBS studio update. Also a tutorial would be AMAZING for unity, i wanna make some mazes in unity xD

Ok thanks, there's a couple of threads linked above that mention OBS Studio being a bit iffy with Unity games, but some possible solutions inside them.

I have finished my second playthrough on sunday (didn't have Internet from Monday until mid yesterday). No performance changes, but not a single crash on fantastic setting. Perhaps the graphics driver update helped there. BTW I have already installed the next update now, because security issues ( https://nvidia.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/4772 ).

Walking around with the maze plan was much more pleasent with its brightness adjusting. I have spotted in the credits that you voice acted Mrs. Burnham, didn't guess that. :lunar2019laughingpig:

One problem I think there might be, are you sure there are actually any thought stones in Brain Castle. Because I have thoroughly searched every corner in two different runs now and didn't find a single one.

Heh, yeah I ran out of budget so had to voice her and mcbobbit :P The stream I was watching today on twitch had the guy cracking up over some of Burnham's lines...so I guess it worked out ok? LOL.

I also lowered the settings in Fantastic so I suppose it could be your driver update, the settings decrease or a little of both. And you are right, the Brain Castle thought stone is still missing. I'm making a large update over the weekend to version 1.0.3, to try and address the Castle crash, try to add a checkpoint in Merry Meadows, allow for "cheat codes" access to levels from the main menu and will have the thought stone in there.

Once I get a couple of additional lines from Maze Meister I'll also be able to complete the Study bonuses and then get it sent out to Jani who hopes to take a look over the optimization frame rate stuff. Did you get the Thorvald achievement? And what about Handle With Care? But I'm hoping Brain Castle achievement is the only one now missing, but I also haven't quite confirmed All Thought Out. Thanks for the feedback Primal Fear!

Yes, "Handle with care" did unlock in the second playthrough.
Thorvald I'm still missing. Not sure what I need to do for it, but I would assign it to a certain journal I found late in the game.

Other than that only "Timely Bob" is giving me problems, am I searching for an actual person there?

Thanks for the notes! Yes, Thorvald is multi faceted 3 thought stones, 2 journals and Timely Bob is a person in Hall of High Dweller. regards!

I got timely Bob now. Did miss him in my second playthrough, but I'm pretty much perfectly sure I did talk to him in my first playthrough with the achivement not unlocking (his face seemed to be new, but what he said was very familiar to me).

Regarding Thorvald, if you say three thought stones and two journals I'm quite sure that these are spread over several levels and expect that they need to be found in a single game session. More precisely I have the feeling it starts in Sunset Realm and ends in White Mountain, so getting this achivement would actually be quite a bit too laborious for me.

Hi Primal, strictly speaking, no the Thorvald items do not need a single session to earn, so you can jump in and get what you want and leave the game and find more later. I may try and add a "level select" option from The Study as although they can be "stacked" (saved progression data) you are right in the sense that, it's not like you can pick and choose which level to revisit in current version. But it shouldn't be hard to create something that lets you jump to already visited levels.

Gentle (ish) hint: Sunset Realm, Hall of High Dweller, Merry Meadows, Winter Mountain

Full solution: Sunset Realm, first thought stone. Hall of the High Dweller journal before "Lament", Merry Meadows Julie's Journals talk, Winter Mountain both thought stones

I'm still yet to update it to version 1.0.3 so hope to put these in for the same update so that it can be quite a substantial one. I needed a couple of days away from the computer lol but it should be ready tomorrow/Tuesday.

I did actually find the save games and know how to change the current level, so I did already choose the levels I wanted to play.

Can I take it that when I switch levels that way I don't need to find the thought stones again, because it is saved that I unlocked all bonuses (and therefore must have found all thought stones)?
I did actually expect that also the journal in the hut directly at the start of Winter Mountain would be part of, because he mentions the stag and that this reminds him of a plan B.

OK, I skipped to the two levels you mentioned and read the journals and it didn't unlock.
Might it be that it only checks the status for the achivement after finding the last thought stone (of the ones having to do with it)?

Yes that's true, it's not a "permanently checking" script, so you need to be in Winter Mountain level In theory, if you just go back to that level (and have read the 2 journals and 3 thought stones it will unlock immediately (I believe, will double check this tomorrow). "Backup Plan" journal isn't currently a part of the achievement, but I suppose it could be...

I have played White Mountain again and read both thought stones (even finished the level) and it didn't unlock. Then I tried doing everything in order and going back to the title menu after each was done to change the level in the save game and that unlocked the achivement after reading the second thought stone.

In the end you must know best, but I don't see were the game would save if this specific thought stone and these journals were found.

Ok thanks for letting me know. Same place as the stage/checkpoint ach_prog_thor_x key, where x is 1 thru 5. But yes I can't quite remember the specifics right this minute, though I did get it to trigger (as you'll see on the global achievement stats). But I'll look it over and make sure it's working in the 1.0.3 update, and that will also have the final thought stone achievements that are not present.

That's weird, I'm absolutely certain that these entries havent been there before at all (surely started with the bonuses). But now I see that I have 1, 2 and 3, but not 4 and 5.
