Tldr for tiktok zoomies with short attention spans: General "dark" eroge themes, cool game that leaves you depressed for a month, avoid if you're squeamish and a tumblrina who will complain about women enjoying content made for them by other women in 2009.

The steam port has a lot of important story/lore elements cut due to censorship which is pretty ironic considering games like No mercy and all the generic ugly coomer 3D """games""" are allowed on the platform but scenes as tame as Youji lying in a tub full of blood are cut. If this is your first time experiencing sweet pool (or NC games in general) avoid the steam version if possible. Play a fan patch or get it off of the JastUSA website if you want. The endings are generally incomprehensible for a first time player even in the original, much less a steam version that's been gutted out of hours worth of context. I only bought it to check out the official translation job (which is oddly well done considering the horrid mistake that the en version of surodame was).

Now that the preaching is over, I can finally talk about my opinions on the game itself. Despite being by far the most tame and newbie friendly it has one of the best executions of a story and my personal favorite NITROPLUS game in general. If you're like me and don't care about the pornography aspect and just want a good story to sink your teeth into, SP will be perfect. It's a classic in the bl genre and the majority of players sing i praise for a reason. If you don't mind body horror, weird fetish stuff typical of JP games and ambiguous 'no hand holding' type storytelling definitively give it a shot. The game is relatively short, you should be able to get every ending over the course of a weekend or two. I don't really want to spoil any of the content in the game itself as I believe a fully blind playthrough to be the best way of experiencing the gem that is sweet pool. My only complaints are: 1. The game is kind of like proto omegaverse minus the gross ass children aspect. Without spoiling too much it's not too offensive or gag inducing if you're like me and hate that trope. 2. The story has strong reproductive themes, a lot of people interpret it as a metaphor for the female puberty and it's challenges, which can be pretty uncomfortable to lots of women who experienced the traumas of going through puberty while living in a misogynistic society.
