Biggest weaknesses to DBZ: KAKAROT
1) If they're going to start from the start. You want to go to the real start. Dragon Ball...NOT Z.
I can understand that most KIDS are into Z because the battles are more extreme, but if you're looking for adventure and lore, DB is a better place to start. Also Z has been remade to exhaustion.
2) American voices sucks to no end. I feel sorry for the people who only speak 1 language. They'll never understand how much better Japanese and Spanish (mexico) voices are so superior to the silly, cheap, copy paste feel of the American voice characters.

Hell, I can totally see a Dragon Ball action adventure actually working. That was literally how the show went. Not sure I agree with your second statement though. Listening to Japanese Goku was pretty jarring. Way higher pitch than you would expect (for obvious reasons). And Christopher Sabat is a pretty great voice actor. Hard to miss that gravely voice. Just a shame how over used he is. I mean, he sounds the same with every single character he plays. Japanese Freeza is pretty good though. Not really sure what they were trying to go for with his english dub. A grandmother that spokes a pack a day?

It's never been about DB vs DBZ though, DBZ made Dragon Ball popular and a lot of people would agree it made anime popular in America. Something with that much success is always going to be a priority in development decisions. DBZ just has some of the most famous action in anime history, but I don't disagree that they should make a DB story based game too but if you want it, this game needs to be a success and then when the devs looks to replicate the success here they'll follow up with the original hopefully. If this fails , the companies will just abandon DB.

*HOLD UP*

you must have forgotten speed racer? mobile suit gundam *even though it was release years later as the creators thought we couldnt understand the intricate plot and anti war themes and whatnot...silly japanese* ronan warriors? G force? hell Mobile suit gundam's artstyle is what directly influenced G1 transformers......that and they hired the animators that worked on MSG to work on it as well XD

point is....DBZ might be an easier bridge to cross into anime, but it wasnt what got many of us into anime. ust putting that out there

side note...DB was already out in the US and dubbed, but like with many things, allot of it was re edited, like goku wearing blue instead of red/oragne, but the redub of it during the dbz craze did help bring i better DB experience as the VAs were TONS better than the og us dub were.

sorry for the mini rant

Damn, OP. You're my homie! The only dub that truly captures the original Japanese voices is indeed the Mexican dub. Plus, they are far superior actors. AND the Mexican dub wasn't censored either and used the original music.

And I agree with the rest. I am old enough that I got into Dragon Ball upon release, and then Dragon Ball Z. There have been so many good games, but I feel there has been zero innovation. Xenoverse had a thing going, but apart from the original story, the rest of the game is garbage. Compared to Tenkaichi 3 and Raging Blast 2, the mechanics are a huge step backwards. I refunded both. FighterZ was amazing, but unfortunately it catered to a different audience, and not precisely fans.

Everything else has been done so many times that I feel as this game will be nothing more than an extended story mode from the old Budokai/Tenkaichi games.

They really need to do a full-fledged Dragon Ball RPG, a-la Dragon Quest. But that won't sell microtransactions and DLC, unfortunately. Namco-Bandai has made clear of their new direction.

This game seems like a rehash of 15 year-old assets with some lense flare and AA. I won't buy it until it's reviewed by users.

Like many others, and what's littered across these discussion boards, I completely agree with your points! The second one especially, I have a really hard time going back to the English dubs. I remember the first time I heard Goku's voice in Japanese I was like "♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, his balls finally dropped!" Completely different feel to the character and his actions.

Goku's Japanese VA is the worst ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ thing in anime history to this date. Not having to hear that granny failing to sound like a man is worth suffering trough the English voice cast.

So wait you heard Goku sounding like a Japanese Grandmother and though it sounded like his balls have dropped? I think you might be going through some hormonal issues yourself if you think that high pitched dolphin screeching sounds like a man who has already gone through his puberty a while ago.

I don't care how well she can voice act sometimes even a good actor just isn't fit for the role or the voice is a complete missmatch. The actor should have been changed when Goku Grew up in the series.

Curiously enough, the first Broly movie had a different voice actor for Goku. He sounded like every other Anime dude. It was kind of cool, but if it's not Mazako Nozawa, it's not Goku.

Did you just diss Funimation? Dude.... low blow.

I can confirm the japanese voices do in fact suck compared to the english ones.

Goku and Gohan are bad, but King kai is the absolute worst for me. Especially in super.

Dragonball is one of those rare anime's where the english cast actually blows the japanese out of the water entirely.

Screw Funimation. They fired a man based on "he said she said" rumours with no proof.

Not some fat cancer lung cancer victim drunktard that American seems to like so much in shonen anime, or some random 40 years old surfer dude who thinks he's the ♥♥♥♥. His ORIGINAL voice fits perfectly his playful personnality and his status of non-human. He is indeed not a Man, but a male Sayajin.

Let's also mention his ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ astounding sayajin-like scream, which should be played to dub VA to inspire them the humilty they lack. I can't understand how anime dubbing can be so bad in the US, when sometimes the same actors offer good performance in American video games.
Maybe are they unable to play teens or young adults, who are often the main protagonists in Japanese medias, contrary to the American ones where grown macho man are more the thing ? That would explain why they thought that a badass and strong character should to sound like a ♥♥♥♥♥♥ on steroids...

As much as I dislike any American dub in anime (specially in Dragon Ball), I also understand they try to adjust to the culture. But most of the times it just flatout ruins the essence of the character. Americans can't take anything too different from their culture, so they disguise elements of their own into it. They also love censorship, which in my opinion ruins the artistic value of said media.

There are even extreme examples that fall in the ridiculous. Just look at 4Kids dubs. They even edit food items, Japanese lettering and for some odd reason, even the time in clocks.

But hey, it could be worst. It took me some time to get used to how cringy the Funimation dub can be, but at least it's not nearly as bad as the Ocean dub.

Goku is physically in his mid 30s now with absolutely stupid testosterone levels and he still sounds like he did as a child? Come the ♥♥♥♥ on. The US dub being bad is no excuse to defend the bad Japanese voice acting.

The only people who think Goku's, Bardock's(there's absolutely no excuse for this) Adult Gohan's voice is good or fitting are Weeb loyalists who think that Japan does always everything better.

If all those years back they had thrown out Nozawa in favor of a good male Japanese VA who has a voice that fits a young man none of you would complain or even hope that the Child Goku's VA would also be doing the adult voice.
