Old laptop not powering on after Eve hang

Not blaming the game per se, mostly looking to help my friend out.. They could run similar games [Starcraft 2] "Kinda fine albeit laggy".. However when they were In the character maker the game simply hanged, sound kept playing and eventually computer closed.. Now the laptop wont power at all..

Tried the usual techsupport things, but I wonder if there was precedent for something like this happening before..

We are about to remove the battery/cmos battery to see if that wakes the laptop up, but wanted to know if yall had experience with issues like this.
